The contemplative sisters of Saint

Paris Vox – The community of Contemplative Sisters of Saint John was founded in 1982 in the hamlet of Rimont, in Fley in the heart of Burgundy! The monastic life of these contemplative nuns is mainly focused on prayer and work. This female branch has six priories located in different countries! Here we go, Divine Box explains everything to you: its history, but also its craftsmanship!

The community and its originsgines

Three religious congregations make up the family of Saint John: the Brothers of Saint John (apostolic branch only), the Apostolic Sisters of Saint John, and the Contemplative Sisters of Saint John. Although these three communities are independent of each other, they still share a common history and spirituality. All three were founded by Father Marie-Dominique Philippe. The brothers were the first in 1975, followed in 1982 by the contemplative sisters and then by the apostolic sisters in 1984.

Let us therefore focus more specifically on Contemplative Sisters of Saint John. In 1982, Father Marie-Dominique Philippe founded a priory in Rimont, where the young girls are welcomed and supervised by the prioress Sister Alix Parmentier. A year passed and the nuns moved to Saint-Jodard, not far from Roanne, in Auvergne. The community is rolling like clockwork and growing very fast! Because already in 1989, we find the Contemplative Sisters of Saint John in five priories around the world (France, Cameroon, United States and Lithuania)!

Arrival at Troussures

In 2008, the priory dedicated to Our Lady of Cana was founded in Oise, at Troussures, not far from Beauvais. There, the sisters are installed in the center of the village, at the Château de Troussures. They live in silence and solitude, and a prioress general is elected every six years to lead the congregation. Today, there are seven nuns living there, with a community life punctuated by prayer and work.

The famous almond pralines!

It is therefore in the small priory of Troussures that the contemplative sisters of Saint Jean develop their monastic craftsmanship, with products such as jam and caramelized almond pralines. The sisters thus better understand the daily work of the laity. They take on a job that allows them to live off the work of their hands.

The almond pralines are therefore prepared by hand in the workshop of the Priory of Troussures, with talent and love! As for the ingredients, there are simply almonds and sugar. The sisters toast the almonds until they are caramelized. And of course, there are no colorings or preservatives, just lots of love and patience. The sisters make it a point of honor not to use any chemical ingredients or GMOs to ensure the quality of the product. What more ?
