While Makoto Shinkai and Toho had accustomed viewers to fairly cryptic trailers for Suzume no Tojimari, the latest they released yesterday revealed a lot of valuable information regarding the director’s upcoming film.

Suzume no Tojimari: the next film from the director of Your Name
Expected for 2022 in Japan, Suzume no Tojimari is Makoto Shinkai’s next film. The director, considered the spiritual successor of Hayao Miyazaki (Chiro’s Journey, Princess Mononoke…) rose to fame following the release of Your Name : witnesses of its success, the 19 million admissions achieved and the 186,492,370 euros in revenue achieved. Since the release of the latter, it is therefore a mini-event each time Makoto Shinkai announces his next film.
We have to wait until 2019 to see The Children of Time in Japan (2020 for France) while it is Suzume no Tojimari which was announced last year: it is expected for next November 11 in the Japanese archipelago.
Since his announcement, little information has been revealed about him. Although the trailers released since are faithful to the graphic paw borrowed by Shinkai, the synopsis remains discreet and remains quite cryptic. It takes place in Kyûshû, one of the four main islands of the archipelago, in the south of Japan. Mysterious gates have appeared across the land, accompanied by catastrophic supernatural events. The heroine is called Suzume, a local teenager, who comes across these kinds of portals and decides to go on a journey to close them all. On the official site, we can read in particular that the feature film tells “the story of a young girl’s freedom and growth, taking flight in life“.

A few weeks before the release of Suzume no Tojimari, a new trailer (to be viewed at the top of this article) has just been released on social networks by Toho. A teaser “ultimate” in the words of the production house, including its share of unpublished sequences and which should inform the curious a little more. On this subject, it is the director Makoto Shinkai who explains that his team and him took more than two years to mount it. A project for which they surpassed themselves:

Unfortunately, this “ultimate trailer” is not accompanied by information concerning the release in other countries of the world. Nevertheless, there is hope: if we follow the logic of the delays experienced in waiting for the release of the last two films (Your The Children of Time) in France, it is about six months that you have to wait before hoping to see Suzume no Tojimari in the dark rooms of France… either for next spring, around the month of May.
