ON CHRISTMAS EVE INTERRELIGIOUS PRAYER

On 24 December, for the homeless in Milan Central Station, there will be prayers at noon, in front of the Holocaust Memorial – Platform 21, in Piazza Safra 1

At the Epiphany lunch for 200 at the Principe di Savoia served by unique “waiters”: actors, singers, politicians, journalists….

“It is a significant event full of solidarity, brotherhood and spirituality, which we have been organizing for 28 years – says Mario Furlan, founder of the City Angels – The homeless people of the station will be present, some of whom sleep right in front of the Memorial. And we invite the Milanese to participate in this moment, which embodies the Christmas spirit of love and togetherness”.

Interreligious prayer will take place at noon: they will pray together with Don Claudio Burgio, the priest who welcomes fragile and problematic young people into his community; the imams Abd Al Sabur Turrini, vice president of the Italian Islamic Union, Maryan Ismail and Khaled Elhediny; Rabbi Sylvia Rothschild; the exponent of the Ukrainian Church don Igor Krupa; and the Buddhist monk Cesare Milani. To seek not what divides, but what unites. And to bring a message of hope in this difficult moment. “We will pray especially for the Ukrainian people and Iranian women,” says Furlan.

The godmother of the City Angels, Daniela Javarone, will bring their greetings; the vice president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, Milo Hasbani; the president of the Italian Federation of Progressive Judaism, Carlo Riva; the president of the Milanese PNA, Roberto Cenati; the president of the regional budget commission, Giulio Gallera; the city councilor Daniele Nahum and the director of the Bar Association and president of the M’Impegno Committee, twinned with the City Angels, Carmelo Ferraro. The Jewish choir Kol Hashomrim will sing.

After the prayer, at 12.30, food will be distributed to the homeless. In particular, Coop Lombardia will give them both its panettone and its “Dolce per Bene”, a Christmas cake prepared in a limited edition which is part of the #FattiPerLaPace initiative. This project supported various support actions for the “Together against violence” campaign, which Coop organizes every year on the occasion of the Day against violence against women.

On this occasion, the young entrepreneur David Scorsaru, founder of the fashion brand Lenski, will donate a few dozen of his sweatshirts to the homeless.

200 AT THE TABLE

On Friday 6 January, at noon, at the Principe di Savoia hotel, the Befana del Clochard returns after three years of Covid: 200 homeless people will have lunch in the most luxurious hotel in Milan, served by institutional figures and testimonials of the City Angels . The three main candidates for President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, Pierfrancesco Majorino and Letizia Moratti, will be present as waiters.

The clochards will be served, among others, by the Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara; Senator Mariastella Gelmini; the honorable Paolo Grimoldi, Andrea Mascaretti, Stefano Maullu, Lia Quartapelle and Silvia Roggiani; the regional councilors Stefano Bolognini, Lara Magoni and Alan Rizzi; the municipal councilors Gaia Romani and Martina Riva; the former Deputy Minister Stefano Buffagni. And, among the testimonials of the City Angels, Enrico Beruschi, Alberto Camerini, Stefano Chiodaroli, Maurizio Colombi, Beppe Convertini, Marco Ferradini, Nino Formicola, Leonardo Manera, Edoardo Raspelli, Rosmy, Andrée Ruth Shammah, Ivana Spagna and the rugby player will act as waiters of the Italian national team Maxime Mbanda. The Alta Moda band will play.

In past years they had also participated: Alessandro Sallusti, Candida Livatino, Francesco Lombardi alias “Ghybkj”, Giuseppe Sala, Roberto Vecchioni, the presenter Paola Bonacina, the “Friend of the Animals” Maura Anastasia …

The Prince of Savoy hotel, which is hosting this solidarity event thanks to Daniela Javarone, will have Prince Albert of Monaco’s personal chef, Christian Garcia, come from Monte Carlo to prepare lunch for the homeless.

On this occasion, the “peace table” will be set up in the middle of the dining hall, in collaboration with the Ambassador of Belize, Nunzio “Pupi” D’Angieri: five Russians and five Ukrainians will dine together, seated at the same table, on which will be waving the two flags of Ukraine and Russia.

The City Angels were founded in Milan in 1994 by Mario Furlan, university professor of motivation and personal growth. They are present in 21 Italian cities and in Lugano, Mendrisio and Chiasso, in Switzerland, for a total of over 600 volunteers, more than half of whom are women.
