The painter Antonio Ramírez Intzin receives the “Rosario Castellanos” Medal

The Chiapas State Congress awarded him its highest award in recognition of his contribution to art and culture

Governor Rutilio Escandón Cadenas awarded the “Rosario Castellanos” Medal, the highest award given by the Chiapas State Congress to men and women who have distinguished themselves for their excellence in the area of ​​science, art and culture, to the painter, engraver, muralist, intellectual and Mayan peasant, Antonio Ramírez Intzin, originally from Ch’ixaltontic, municipality of Tenejapa.

The president highlighted the trajectory of the artist from Chiapas who, through his work, has crossed borders raising the name of the entity and emphasized that with his talent and creative work he gives continuity to the great ancient culture of the Mayan people, which, he said, not only enhances identity, but also strengthens present and future generations.

“This award that honors a great spokesperson for indigenous peoples such as Rosario Castellanos, today was given to a man who transmits that enormous heritage left by our ancestors,” said Escandón Cadenas.

In a solemn session, before the president of the Board of Directors of the State Congress, María de los Ángeles Trejo Huerta, the winner thanked his ancestors and Rosario Castellanos for the literary brilliance he inherited to Chiapas, Mexico and the world, “I am a Mayan painter and from my colors and language I celebrate the poetry and narrative of Rosario Castellanos, it is a pride for me to receive the medal that bears his name, which I dedicate to my children, my wife, my family to all the creators and in especially, to the inhabitants of my community and my ancestors”.

He expressed that art is a means of learning, dialogue and debate that allows society to be sensitized, finding a bridge to spirituality, therefore, in his pictorial work, Mayan spirituality is of great importance because it makes light live and the knowledge of the energy that governs all things. He pointed out that he seeks to contribute to the communities to create in the youth a way of understanding life without losing the ancestral roots.

After noting that Antonio Ramírez Intzin has exhibited his works in galleries in Europe, as well as in the United States, Argentina, Colombia, among other countries, Deputy Flor de María Esponda Torres highlighted that the painter from Chiapas has taken the name of the state to several latitudes of the world, through his work, workshops and conferences, where he manifests the forms of spirituality of the Mayan culture.

When making the Historical Proclamation of the writer Rosario Castellanos, the deputy Petrona de la Cruz Cruz, president of the Commission for the Nomination of the “Rosario Castellanos” Medal, pointed out that with the delivery of this highest award the name of a woman who It is a reference of struggle and that through his poetry he showed love for his land, for the indigenous peoples and his rebellious and unbreakable spirit, a reference of struggle for women.

It is worth mentioning that the name of the artist Antonio Ramírez Intzin was unveiled on the Wall of Honor of the winners of the “Rosario Castellanos” Medal, at the exit of the legislative precinct.

They attended: the deputies and members of the LXVIII Legislature; the president of the Superior Court of Justice and the Judicial Council, Juan Óscar Trinidad Palacios; the son of the writer Rosario Castellanos, Gabriel Guerra Castellanos; the chief of the General Staff of the Southeast Air Region, Juan Ángel Jordán Aguilar; on behalf of the Puerto Chiapas Naval Region, Francisco Rafel Teliz Sánchez; former Governor Pablo Salazar Mendiguchía; senators, deputies and federal deputies, members of the Legal and Extended Cabinet, among others.
