“Crimes against spirituality” do not exist, but “crimes against humanity” are criminalized in international law

The sanctioned Rosario Murillo classified the alleged actions of Monsignor Rolando Álvarez as a crime of against spirituality

Nicaraguan legislation does not have any crime classified as a “crime against spirituality” as explained by human rights defense attorneys Yonarqui Martínez and Gonzalo Carrión to 100% Noticias.

On August 5, the sanctioned vice president of Nicaragua Rosario Murillo threatened the bishop of the Matagalpa diocese, Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, with jail for allegedly committing crimes of “against spirituality”, however, the lawyer Yonarqui Martínez explained that this classification is only used on issues of an occult nature and recalled that a person cannot be prosecuted for crimes that are not defined in national legislation.

“What is called a crime against spirituality is a vague expression, it is an expression that is not in accordance with legal terminology (…) it is a terminology that is used for questions of an occult nature and has nothing to do with the canon law, I took the task of investigating that it did exist within canon law and it is not there either and in our legislation no person can be prosecuted for a crime that is not typified, ”said the lawyer to 100% Noticias.

For his part, the lawyer Gonzalo Carrión of the Nicaraguan Human Rights Collective Never +, pointed out that the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo dare to become Álvarez’s inquisitors, for accusing him of “lesa spiritualidad” that is non-existent.

“Who is responsible for crimes against humanity (Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo), They go so far as to speak of moral authority, of speaking of crimes against spirituality, even constituting themselves as a supreme inquisition for acts that do not constitute a crime at all,” said Carrión.

Procedure for a new law to criminalize priests

Yonarqui Martínez stated that these statements by the sanctioned Rosario Murillo could possibly be the announcement of a new request from the regime for the deputies of the National Assembly and create a law that does not exist anywhere in the world to criminalize the religious in the country.

“I don’t know if there is bad advice or there is not a correct reading about the crimes that Nicaragua has been approving (…) there could be a request, suddenly of crimes that are non-existent throughout the world and that nothing can more typified in our country”, said the lawyer.
