Stories of love and hope

Faced with a new wave of pandemic and a global (and national) economy and security continually beset by micro and macro risks, humanity must turn inward and accept reality in its own strength. In difficult times like these, cultivating resilience can be a matter of keeping our hope alive through the power of love, a power that can endure and help humanity prevail. Inspired by Dante’s allegorical quest in La Divina Comedia – as he climbs from the dreadful Hell, through the multiple levels of Purgatory to the ecstatic visions of Paradise – we warmly invite you to submit proposals whose subject matter touches on the intertwining of love and hope or their reviled opposites: hate and despair. The latter represent the alternatives that we must face today on all sides of our paths. We therefore encourage submissions from different areas of expertise relevant to the above topic, including (but not limited to): Language and Literature, Visual Arts and Performing Studies, Cultural, Gender and Identity Studies , philosophy, religion, anthropology, psychology, among many others.

It is to offer topics such as:

• Philosophies of love and hope;

• Varieties of love/hope;

• The eternal quest for love;

• Means of maintaining hope;

• Collective love and hope vs. individual;

• Utopia vs. dystopia: social effects of love and hope/hate and despair;

• Love and hope in (post)colonial/modern times;

• Mythological representations of love/hope;

• God/Divinity and the expression of supreme love;

• Love and marriage;

• The family and its old/new ways of expressing love;

• Love and materialism/consumerism/social status;

• Media and the fetishization of love;

• Human ages and stages of love;

• (Trans)generational expressions of love and hope;

• The love-hope/hate-despair psychological link;

• Passion and addiction as expressions of love engendering despair;

• Finding love/Preserving hope in extreme circumstances: times of war and pandemics;

• Nurturing hope/ Nurturing despair through labor of love or hate etc.

Please note that the above topics are not exclusive and all contributions on the proposed topic are welcome. Similarly, the journal section entitled Miscellaneous may include articles that are not related to the current topic.

Narratives of Love and Hope

Faced with yet a new wave of the pandemic and the global (and national) economy and security continually assailed by micro and macro risks, humanity must turn inwards and come to terms with reality by means of its own strength. In hard times such as these, cultivating resilience may be a matter of keeping up our hope through the power of love, one that can endure and help humanity prevail. We therefore encourage submissions from different fields of expertise relevant to the above topic, including (but not limited to) language and literature, the visual arts, performance studies, cultural studies, gender and identity studies, philosophy, religion, anthropology, psychology, among many others and offers topics such as:
