First reading

Reading from the book of Jeremiah 20, 10-13

Jeremiah said:
I heard the accusation of the people:
«“Dread-in-around”,
give him away, let’s give him away.”
My friends stalked my stumble:
“Let’s see if, deceived, we submit it
and we can take revenge on him.
But the Lord is my strong defender:
they chase me, but they stumble helplessly.
They will end up ashamed of their failure,
with eternal blush that will not be forgotten.
Lord of the universe, who examines the honest
and you probe the entrails and the heart,
that I see your revenge on them,
for I have entrusted my cause to you!
Sing to the Lord, praise the Lord,
that frees the life of the poor
from the hands of wicked people.

Psalm

Salt 68 R/. Lord, let your great goodness listen to me.

For you I have endured insults,
shame covered my face.
I am a stranger to my brothers,
a stranger to my mother’s children.
Because the zeal of your temple devours me,
and the insults with which they insult you fall on me. R/.

But my prayer goes to you,
Lord, the day of your favor;
let your great goodness listen to me,
May your fidelity help me.
Answer me, Lord, with the goodness of your grace;
for your great compassion, turn to me. R/.

Look at him, you humble, and rejoice;
seek the Lord, and he will revive your heart.
May the Lord listen to his poor,
he does not despise his captives.
Praise him heaven and earth,
the waters and all that boils in them. R/.

Second lecture

Reading of the letter of the apostle Saint Paul to the Romans 5, 12-15

Siblings:
Just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.
Well, until the law came there was sin in the world, but sin was not imputed because there was no law. In spite of everything, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned with a transgression like Adam’s, who was a figure of the one who was to come.
However, there is no proportion between the crime and the gift: if for the crime of only one all died, with greater reason the grace of God and the gift granted by virtue of one man, Jesus Christ, have overflowed on all.

Gospel of the day

Holy Gospel reading according to Saint Matthew 10, 26-33

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples:
«Do not be afraid of men, because there is nothing hidden that will not be discovered; nor is there anything hidden that will not be known.
What I tell you in the dark, say it in the light, and what I whisper to you, proclaim it from the roof.
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul. No; fear him who can destroy soul and body in “gehenna”. Don’t a couple of sparrows sell for a penny? And yet, not a single one falls to the ground without your Father’s order. Well, you even have the hairs of your head numbered. Therefore, do not be afraid: you are worth more than many sparrows.
Whoever declares for me before men, I will also declare for him before my Father who is in heaven. And if one denies me before men, I will also deny it before my Father who is in heaven.”
