Tiranese associations united to promote the territory

On Sunday, August 7, 2022, the “cammIKAndo” Association accompanied Alessandro and Donato, authors of the beautiful TV series “Itineraries” broadcast by Teleunica, along one of the routes that cross the southern bank of Mount Massuccio halfway up the mountain, from Tirano to Alpe di S.Romerio in Valposchiavo. The collaboration of two other Tyrolean Associations was decisive: the local section of Anfi (National Association of Italian Financiers) and the “Amici di S.Romerio” Association.

It was a very special day, which began with a leaden sky that did not promise anything good that went incredibly bright after a while and against all odds.

Departing from Tirano early in the morning with a minibus that the “Perego car” kindly made available to the group, we headed to the hamlet of Baruffini continuing to the “Piazzo” district, where the walk with video recordings began. Walking along the “path of smuggling and memory”, recovered by ANFI and with recently rearranged posters, the Anfi Volunteers illustrated what was the historical period of smuggling, a phenomenon that was widespread in all the border areas of the Alps but which developed here above all between the last decades of the 19th century until the end of the 60s. The most significant points of interest and the section of the Cadorna line which is located near the former barracks of “Sasso del Gallo” have been described. After passing the cippus n.5 and the Swiss border, we continued towards S. Romero passing the underlying village of Viano and continuing on the well-indicated paths and mule tracks. Following in the footsteps of the “ancient Bernina road”, crossed in past centuries by pilgrims, merchants and travelers who from northern Europe headed for the Po Valley and beyond, it is easy to imagine how adventurous, tiring and dangerous these long alpine crossings were. , from which it was not known when and if he would return. In this temporal suggestion and immersed in the beauty of the landscape, we reached the Alpe di S. Romerio where the Volunteers of the “Amici di S.Romerio” Association welcomed the arriving group with a rich mountain meal at the house-refuge. , once a xenodochio, which belongs with the church to the municipality of Tirano. The rich and excellent mountain menu was honored: polenta taragna, sausages, yellow polenta with stew, cold cuts, cheeses, bisciola and good wine. Following Prof. Gianluigi Garbellini, irreplaceable and always available, explained the historical reasons for which these buildings are still owned by Italy despite being today in Swiss territory and the numerous events that have seen the destinies of Valtellina and nearby Valposchiavo intersect. .

As always, this place imbued with spirituality and beauty enchants those who arrive for the first time and renews the desire to return to those who already know it.

A heartfelt thanks to all the friends who participated and collaborated with enthusiasm and an applause to the authors of the video that will be broadcast in the autumn.

Thanks to “Automobilistica Perego”, the Delle Coste bakery “Al prestinè” in Madonna di Tirano for the welcome bisciole and the Triacca winery for the “Pellegrino wine”, produced in homage to the “Marian Way of the Alps”.

See you at the next episode on new routes of the Tiranese!
