In the footsteps of the saints through 15 municipalities, 2 regions and 3 provinces

One hundred and seventy kilometers to be traveled intensely between the hills and towards the lake, hitting the places of the Risorgimento and following the traces left in history and spirituality by Sant’Angela Merici, San Luigi Gonzaga and the blessed Paola Montaldi.

And the “Way of Faith and Solidarity” inaugurated at the beginning of the summer by the Colline morainiche del Garda association: 15 municipalities involved in particular between the provinces of Brescia, Mantua and Verona, all places to be rediscovered today with a new, open and introspective look.

Territory

In our province there are three countries involved in the initiative started more than a decade ago and now finally structured: Desenzano, Lonato and Pozzolengo. Then, Castiglione and Ponti sul Mincio, Monzambano and Solferino, Castellaro Lagusello and Cavriana, Medole and Guidizzolo, Volta Mantovana, Goito and Marmirolo. In addition to Peschiera, the only town in the Veronese area included in the itinerary. A path that leads to meditation, observation and slowness: an alternative proposal for concrete tourism, but also aggregating from the hills to the lake, for the whole area.

The Way is thought first and foremost to know the places of birth and life of the three religious who inspired it (i.e. Desenzano for Sant’Angela, Castiglione for San Luigi Gonzaga and Volta Mantovana for the blessed Paola Montaldi), but also to discover the naturalistic and landscape beauties of the moraine region. And consequently its history, so rich in art and culture. We are in the places of the Risorgimento: here, in this quadrilateral, the idea of the Red Cross was born. The inspiring principle is what moves this as much as all the great paths of the world: what one encounters along the way counts, not the reason for departure, nor the arrival.

Path

There is no ideal starting point, nor a predetermined route to follow. On foot or by bicycle, the 170 kilometers of track they allow endless detours and the map available on the association’s website marks each place of interest, each main or secondary route, car parks and drinking fountains, panoramic points and green areas.

In the three Brescia towns involved in the initiative, the Maguzzano abbey, the Roman furnaces and the church of Castel Venzago in Lonato stand out, as well as all the places of Sant’Angela in Desenzano: from the statue that dominates in Piazza Malvezzi to the his home and the convent of the Ursuline nuns, passing through the Mericianum and the churches of Visione and Machetto. In Pozzolengo, on the other hand, the abbey of San Vigilio, the castle and the parish church, as well as the Mantellina swamp and the Don Giussani park are identified.
