Monheurt. Commemoration of 400 years of the siege: act two

The small town of Monheurt is preparing to experience the second part of the commemorations of the siege of the Protestant stronghold destroyed in 1621 by the armies of King Louis XIII.

It was in fact last December that the town had organized around the historic date of December 13, the day of the surrender of the besieged, ceremonies placed under the sign of fire: illumination of the porch of the church during the 27 days of the duration of the siege, ecumenical mass followed by a torchlight procession and a spectacular fireworks display.

An enticing menu

For this second act, it is under the sign of rebirth and hope that elected officials and local associations wished to place the rest of these ceremonies. After the destruction, it will be under the theme of reconstruction that the strong moment was chosen around which the animations of these three days have developed, which will take place from Friday to Sunday. It will therefore be a question of marking this moment by giving free rein to builders and creators. For this, the municipality was able to rely on the Ami Garonne project carried out by the community of municipalities of the Confluent and the slopes of Prayssas. Within a set of actions aimed at the municipalities bordering the Garonne, an envelope was devoted to the realization of the model of the fortified city destroyed in 1621 and the construction of a kiosk.

These achievements entrusted to a company from Maine-et-Loire for the model and to a craftsman from Monpezat d’Agenais for the kiosk resulted in a particularly successful set whose location at the entrance to the village will be the source of a new tourist attraction on a site already popular with visitors. It is therefore on Saturday June 18 at 6 p.m. that the inauguration of this building will launch this weekend of festivities.

Around this many animations will follow one another. Sporting events with an “open day” at the CRC XV rugby school on Saturday, the start of a canoe-kayak competition on Sunday morning and a cycling race on Sunday afternoon.

Cultural events with the visit of Janouille on Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., the production of a small live historical show proposed by the local Bac troupe and programmed four times during the weekend, the projection of a history of Monheurt fictionalized read with several voices and illustrated by an artist.

Add to this a fun part with inflatable structures, archery and old wooden games, a gastronomic part with a big meal on Saturday evening led by a master roaster and food trucks on Sunday, a spiritual part with an ecumenical ceremony on Sunday morning in support of Ukraine and finally a pyrotechnic party with a big fireworks display on Saturday at 11 p.m. without forgetting the presence of the majorettes from Aiguillon and Occitan dancers.

So many emotions to experience throughout these two days which will end around 8 p.m. on Sunday with the official closing of the commemorations punctuated by three cannon shots and the broadcast by the Duho company of a film relating all the events. organized for this commemoration.
