In order to extend the rights to the recordings, Pink Floyd released 18 concerts from the era ” Dark Side ot the Moon on streaming services.

In what becomes an annual traditionPink Floyd has quietly uploaded 18 concerts from the era Dark Side of the Moon on streaming services, as well as a collection of ” alternative pieces from their legendary 1973 album.

In December 2021, Pink Floyd had already posted a dozen unreleased concerts, dating from 1970 to 1972, without any communication. Artists like Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan have used this tactic in the past to extend recording rights.

In 2013, a Sony representative explained Dylan’s uploading of music not put into circulation by declaring to RollingStone : “ Copyright law in Europe was recently extended from 50 to 70 years for anything recorded in 1963 and beyond. For all of the above, there is a new “Use It or Lose It” provision. It basically says, “If you haven’t used the recordings in the first 50 years, you won’t have another year. “.

The 18 concerts (none of which have been officially released) span January 23, 1972 through December 9, 1972, with Pink Floyd working, refining and perfecting The Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety at every concert before its March 1973 release. The entire four-night performance of Pink Floyd at the Rainbow Theater in London, February 17–20, 1972, is also available for streaming.

The five-track bonus, titled simply ” Alternative Tracks 1972 “, includes remixes and alternate versions” ultra rare of five songs by dark sideincluding a raw demo of “ On the Run “.

All newly uploaded recordings with similar generic artwork are copyrighted by Pink Floyd Music Ltd, suggesting that they are official releases of the band. However, once copyrights were restored, concerts uploaded in 2021 were removed from streaming services, meaning the 2022 batch isn’t likely to stay online for very long.
