Avatar 2: “Visual masterpiece”, “Amazing”… the first reviews of The Way of the Water have fallen!

While waiting to see Avatar 2 in theaters on December 14, discover the first reactions from the Anglo-Saxon press about James Cameron’s feature film.

Another very short week to wait before discovering Avatar 2 on the big screen! After 13 years of waiting, James Cameron presented the film to the press at a world premiere in London and the first reviews fell.

The least that can be said is that these reactions are laudatory, the journalists notably praising the overflowing imagination of the director, the breathtaking visual effects and the great emotion that emerges from the story.

As Happy Sad Confused podcast host Josh Horowitz said: “James Cameron is teaching other filmmakers a lesson yet again. I’ve said it 1000 times already. Never doubt the director. Avatar 2 is a lesson in how to make blockbusters. Epic, emotional and visceral. It’s that’s how big movies should be made.”

For his part, Erik Davis, of Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes, believes that Avatar 2 is “phenomenal”. “Even bigger, better and more emotional than the first, The Way of the Water is visually breathtaking, visceral and incredibly captivating. The story, the spectacle, the spirituality, the beauty – it’s cinema and storytelling at its finest.”

“Unsurprisingly, Avatar: The Waterway is a visual masterpiece with a rich use of 3D resulting in jaw-dropping shots. The film, however, suffers from a thin narrative and too many characters to juggle “, nuance Ian Sandwell of Digital Spy.

“Yet James Cameron manages to bring it all together for an extraordinary final act filled with emotion and heart-pounding action.”

For Perri Nemiroff, of Collider, “The Way of the Water is pretty amazing. I had faith in James Cameron to raise the bar with the special effects, but they are breathtaking. The stunning images follow one after another.

But what I enjoyed the most was how the technical prowess is always at the service of the character and the world-building.”

“As an Avatar fan, I had high hopes for The Way of the Water and, to me, it totally delivers. Sure, it’s a bit long, but it’s worth it. Thumbs up for the great visuals and new characters. Total fun”tells us Kara Warner of People Magazine.

“I’ve seen Avatar twice and I’m overwhelmed by its technical mastery and intimate, unexpected emotional reach. Yes, the universe is expanded and sequels are announced, but the characters are the most important. Cameron is in great shape , especially in the last act. It’s good that he’s back”enthused Drew Taylor of The Wrap.

“Avatar 2 better than the first? Easily. The 3D aquatic world and creatures are so surreal they’re downright moving. There’s a major homage to Titanic”says Nikki Kovak (Fandango).

“Avatar: The Way of Water is an endless visual spectacle. The story is better and more complex than the first film, with solid emotions, but the characters could be developed a bit more. It’s definitely long , it relies a lot on incredible visuals and techniques, the best of 3D”analyzes Brandon Davis (Comicbook.com).

Additionally, Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro also went on to rave about James Cameron’s film on his Twitter account. “A staggering achievement! Avatar: The Way of Water is filled with majestic imagery and emotion on an epic scale. A master at the peak of his powers”he hammered.
