The White Lotus 3 will be there. On November 18, 2022, the HBO cable network confirmed the third season of the award-winning anthology series. No wonder: the series has become a major hit for Warner Bros. Discovery.
In the United States, the season 2 finale has kept glued 4.1 million total viewers across HBO Max and linear broadcasts on airnight, more than double the 1.9 million people who tuned in for the season one finale. It is also an extraordinary result – undoubtedly increased by the sounding board of social networks, which supported the weekly broadcast with memestheories and viral tweets – compared to the result of the debut of the second season, which had registered 1.5 million people.
When does The White Lotus 3 come out
Filming for season 3 has yet to kick off, but we can hazard a release window. The first season premiered on July 11, 2021 on HBO and HBO Max in the United States, while the second season kicked off on October 30, 2022 also overseas. If filming for the next episodes will begin between spring and summer 2023, the third cycle of episodes could see the light between the end of next year and the first months of 2024. We await an official announcement from HBO in this regard.

In Italy, the third season will be distributed exclusively by Sky and Now. Comcast’s pay-TV has signed an exclusive agreement that provides for Warner Bros. Discovery’s HBO programming to land on its channels until the end of 2025. If the distribution scheme adopted for the first two seasons is repeated, the third will also be airing simultaneously with the US release. We’re envisioning the next few episodes arriving by late 2023, or early 2024 at the earliest.

What will happen in the third season? The black comedy from HBO will be set in another resort of The White Lotus chain and will closely follow the lives of some guests and how they intertwine with the stories of the locals. Being a social satire, the series will address the theme from a new point of view. Mike said upcoming episodes could center around the concept of mortality — a topic the series alludes to in the season two finale.
“The first season featured money and the second season featured sex”, White said in an interview with varietyadding: “I think the third season could deal with – through a satirical and funny look – topics such as death, oriental religion and spirituality. It seems to me that it could be an exciting premise for another adventure at the White Lotus”.

The first season of the show is set at the resort of Maui, Hawaii, while for the second chapter the action moves to Sicily, specifically to Taormina. Where will the series travel ahead of its third season? It hasn’t been official yet, but creator Mike White has already talked about which continent he’s eyeing for upcoming episodes.

During an interview with variety, White said he would like to expand on Asian spiritual sensitivities in season three. The author’s choice for the location of season 3 seems to have fallen on Asia. If we were to hazard a guess at possible settings, we would speculate Thailand, Indonesia or the Philippines.

Being a semi-anthological series – each season is set in a different resort of the prestigious hotel chain that gives the show its name – each chapter presents an almost entirely renewed cast, except for some characters who return between an episode cycle and the other. The creator Mike White has in fact confirmed that all the seasons of his show are set in the same narrative universe – as evidenced by the presence of Jennifer Coolidge alias Tanya McQuoid, element of union between the first and second seasons -, therefore it is probable that in the season 3 we will see familiar faces from previous editions again.

For the third season we expect an episode order ranging from six (as for the first season) to seven (in the case of the second) episodes. The show is created, written and directed by Mike White and executive produced by White, David Bernad and Mark Kamine. Production companies HBO Entertainment, Pallogram and The District are making the series on behalf of HBO. Warner Bros. Television Distribution distributes the title internationally.

Although the production of season 3 has already been confirmed – and preparations for the next episodes are underway behind the scenes -, a trailer for the new chapter of TWL extension. We will most likely see it close to the debut of the unpublished episodes, therefore about two months from the debut date.
