From 7 to 9 August various artists will paint the history of the village on some doors of the historic center interpreting, with their art, episodes of the history and culture and precious spirituality of this Arbëresh minority town.
The project of the Municipality of San Benedetto Ullano, strongly supported by the Mayor Rosaria Amalia Capparelli, was born in 2019 for the redevelopment of the historic center, the tourist attraction and the protection of the identity heritage.
There will be three intense days, dedicated to art, history, food and wine, social sharing, and music, with the active participation of the whole community committed to opening the doors to hospitality. Five Calabrian artists who will give life, with their works, to the historic center: Vincenzo Allevato, Angelica Arone, Rita Mantuano, Angela Panetta, Luigi Perenz. The President of the Art Commission is the art critic Alessandra Primicerio and the artistic direction is by Graziella Di Ciancio.
The program of these three days was very rich
The opening conference of the event and the presentation of the painting exhibition by Gennaro Cribari will be held on Sunday 7 August at 6 pm in front of the narrating door of Palazzo Bisciglia.
At 9 pm, same place Attilio Vaccaro, teacher of Medieval History of Unical, will give an interesting report on Kanun, Albanian customary and family law.
On Monday 8 August, at 10 am, in front of the D’Angelo oven you can learn the traditional art of making “Papoccioli” (ritual bread of San Rocco), with a free workshop held by mother Natalina and Annamaria Iusi.
At 6 pm the tour of the doors will start for visitors: the actor and storyteller William Gatto will tell about Albanian women, fairy tales, the history of the village, saints and thaumaturges and the sweetness of a traveling Madonna. At 8 pm on the same day, the Honorary Inspector of the Superintendence Gianluigi Trombetti, at the dedicated church, will narrate the legend of the Madonna del Buonconsiglio, to which a door was dedicated this year.
On Tuesday 9 August from 4 pm food stands and markets with local products will open: aromas and flavors of the Arbëresh tradition will fill the village to introduce visitors to authentic specialties. During the event it will be possible to listen to the singers of Vjershe, the traditional verses in the streets of the historic center.
At 6 pm, seated in front of Palazzo Bisciglia, you will be able to listen to the narrations in front of the door: tales of memory on the Arbëresh wedding and on the traditional dress with the ladies Letizia Martino and Ivia Tavolaro.
The grand finale will be at 9 pm with the participation of the group of San Benedetto Ullano Kreshnikët and Lirisë and the concert of the Peppa Marriti Band, a prestigious rock group that opens to Balkan sounds and references to the Arbëresh tradition.
The event of “Le Porte Narranti” is realized with the contribution of the Calabria Region.
In San Benedetto Ullano it will be possible to have a unique emotional experience between art, culture and doors that whisper of stories of peoples, of life, of departures and returns and that tell of Byzantine exploits and treasures, of countesses, saints and thaumaturges, proud warriors Albanians. Entering these doors will be a beautiful journey.
