To Quimper, the Ravy bookstore offers itself a magnificent gift for Christmas: a new sales area of 1,000 m2.

At the end of November 2022, the store located passage of the red hat in the city center will therefore extend over 2,000 m2.

One of the largest bookstores in France

What will make it one of the largest bookstores in France. I had already had this project in mind for several years. The merger with the Dialogues bookstore in Brest made it possible. We’ve been working on it for a year,” says Jean-Michel Blancthe director of the Ravy bookstore.

He is careful not to reveal the amount of the investment, but inflation, the rise in the cost of materials, etc. have not called this expansion into question.

What will be the context in six months? Impossible to say. We invest for the very long term. There was a very nice surface area available and the district will develop with the opening of new halls in 2025, the arrival of Carrefour City rue du Chapeau-Rouge…

Jean-Michel Blanc.

He understands that other cells in the Passage du Chapeau Rouge should fill up. “In the spring of 2023, we should have neighbors. “Which confirms the Town Hall of Quimper without saying more.

A floor for young people

Currently, a good dozen workers are busy in the extension located in the extension of the current store, on the site of the old H&M.

On the ground floor, you will find graphic novels, comics, science fiction, manga and a large section devoted to music and vinyl. “The sale of vinyl records is picking up very strongly. As for manga, it explodes. However, we had very limited shelving,” describes Jean-Michel Blanc.

The floor will be devoted to the youth. “We drew inspiration from the 20-year experience of Les Enfants de Dialogues in Brest. »

Everything will be there: literature, games, toys… Benches and tables will allow children and their parents to sit down to leaf through an album or try out a game. The Ravy bookstore wants to offer an “experience, a story” within its store. The layout, the circulations work in this direction. Adults will also find board games.

Finally, at the very end of the first floor, customers can have tea with a pastry in a glazed area with a bird’s eye view of rue du Chapeau Rouge. In 2023, a small restoration is planned for a capacity of 40 place settings.

Around November 11, Ravy will close for three or four days to fit everything out. The historic store will also be completely reorganized and two new spaces will be created: one devoted to spirituality, well-being and personal development; the other to the creative arts.

To ensure the smooth running of this new XXL bookstore, 8 to 10 people are being recruited. The workforce will then reach 23 to 25 employees.
