For over twenty years the MEIC (Ecclesial Movement of Cultural Engagement) organizes biennial conferences in Ostuni on the socio-political, economic, anthropological reality of the cultures that are reflected on the shores of the Mediterranean.

The Ostuni events are an opportunity to deepen the aspects of the migration phenomenon of epochal dimensions that is involving and questioning our territory and the whole of Europe. In contrast to the increasingly frequent episodes of intolerance in recent times, the MEIC with these initiatives, framed in the “Mediterranean, the sea of ​​dialogue“, It is proposed to reflect, beyond the slogans and simplifications, on reception strategies starting from the positive models already implemented in some southern regions.

This year the event is all female with the involvement of well-known speakers to talk about the migrant women and more. Among these, on Friday 14th we will listen to Prof. Cristina Simonelli (President of the Coordination of Italian Theologians) who will give a talk entitled “Mothers of hope. Migrant women and the future of the anthropocene ”, Dr. Erminia Sabrina Rizzi (legal worker in Immigration and asylum law) who will talk about“ The right to asylum from a gender perspective ”; Dr. Anna Rita Pinto, president of the Mesagne Equal Opportunities Commission, coordinated the work.

On Saturday morning, on the other hand, Prof. Entela Cukani (professor of Comparative Immigration Law – University of Salento) will speak who will deal with “Unaccompanied foreign minors”, Dr. Filomena Pisconti (PhD in Criminal Law – University of Bari, Ionian Department of Taranto) with a report on “The female face of rescue at sea between duty and crime: the Rackete case” and Dr. Maddalena Tulanti (journalist, deputy director of Corriere del Mezzogiorno) with “Migration: feminine noun”, coordinated by Dr. Michela Di Trani (journalist, president of Ucsi Puglia).

In the afternoon Maria Lora Minetti, secretary of the local MEIC group, will moderate the speeches by Dr. Ilaria Forte (sociologist, operator in charge of the Sai Alezio Cooperativa Rinascita project) and Laura Pezzuto (psychologist, psychotherapist Sai Cooperativa Rinascita projects) who will talk to us respectively about ” Taking charge of migrant women in Sai projects “and of” Migrant women and sexual trafficking: psychological intervention “.

To draw the conclusions of the conference, the lawyer. Gianmichele Pavone (MEIC national councilor) and at the end of the day Adriano Barranco will stage the show “Paths in the wake of the myths of the Mediterranean”: accompanied on an ideal journey through the waves, retracing the founding myths of our culture.

On Sunday 16 the Eucharistic celebration and a visit to the site of Santa Maria di Agnano, where the Ostuni 1 burial, the oldest mother in the world, was discovered, is scheduled for the participants in the works.

Participation in the works is free and free with the exception of the tourist visit to the Agnano site.
