Knowledge and tools to face the world, the review “Monterosso: a sea of books”

A red thread between high-level authors and the population, an opportunity to provide good tools and try to understand something more in the world that is slowly emerging from the pandemic but struggling with other continuous and at times tragic upheavals. All this is contained in “Monterosso: a sea of books” which reaches its sixth edition after the flattering success of the past few years. The literary event was presented this morning in the provincial council hall in La Spezia by the mayor of Monterosso Emanuele Moggia and by the curator of the review Marco Ferrari.

“We are very satisfied with the successes of recent years – explains Ferrari -, it establishes itself as one of the main literary reviews in Liguria, even if this year we see many attempts at ‘dubbing’. We have set up a program with eight major meetings and an evening, which we will open at the Capuchin Convent, under the banner of spirituality. We will have names of the caliber of Federico Rampini, Gemma Calabresi, Simonetta Gola. In particular, his presence is very important for us and is a tribute to Gino Strada, there will also be many associations. There will also be Paolo Crepet, Tiziana Ferrario, the great cyclist Davide Cassani, Maria Luisa Agnese and we will close with the scientist Paolo Ferri was our guest two years ago ”.

The mayor of Monterosso Emanuele Moggia explained: “The review is of the highest quality and we have always tried to give the citizens the tools to know and read through the great relevance that the guests of the exhibition bring. This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the assassination of Commissioner Calabresi and it is a time to take stock of recent history as well, think of the news of the refusal of the extradition of his assassins by the French Court of Justice. The contribution of Mrs. Calabresi is also a message of hope because it is centered on the suffered and conquered desire for forgiveness. The book we have on Strada is also very topical, because we are living in a moment of crisis in civilization. At the base there are always those who go in search of tools to help the weakest and people who no longer have the right to health and life. Gino Strada is a shining example of this and these values offer profound food for thought ”.

“We are emerging from the pandemic and we do not know what awaits us – continues Moggia – in eight years of mandate I have faced important problems and the two years of the pandemic were probably the hardest. I have experienced firsthand the psychological distress of citizens, it is therefore important that in the exhibition there is a figure like Crepet’s who will talk about dreams but his presence will also be a service that we will give to citizens. The red thread of the entire event is to give excellence through authoritative authors but also to give tools to citizens, so that they can acquire them. They are events open to the world and to history ”.

“Monterosso: a sea of books”, all the appointments.

The initiative is organized by the Cinque Terre Tourist Consortium and the Municipality of Monterosso with the patronage of the Cinque Terre National Park, the collaboration of the Pro Loco Monterosso and the contribution of Banca Versilia Lunigiana and Garfagnana, Saniorenzo Yachts Spa, Confartigianato and Cna La Spezia. The graphics are edited by Res Comunica ione. At the Molo dei Pescatori, where the events take place, the distancing rules will be guaranteed. Admission is free to all subject to availability. The review begins Thursday 7 July at 9.30 pm with Gemma Calabresi Milite presenting “La crepa e la luce” (Mondadori). Emanuele Moggia, mayor of Monterosso, spoke. The book is the story of a journey, the one that Gemma, widow of Commissioner Calabresi, has traveled since the day of her husband’s murder, fifty years ago. A winding road that, starting from the human desire for revenge of a 25-year-old girl with two small children and a third on the way, led her, not without difficulty, to grow her lime trees away from any temptation of resentment and anger and to embrace, over time and with ever more determination, the idea of forgiveness. A story that, starting from the life of a young couple who is shocked by the Piazza Fontana massacre, spans half a century, mending intimate and private moments with the public events of Italian society. An intense and sincere testimony on the meaning of justice and memory but also a story of love and peace. Second appointment Sunday 10 July at 21.30 with Federico Rampini presents his last two books “Western Suicide” (Mondadori) and the brand new “America: America. Journey to the rediscovery of a country ”(Soiferino) that questions the fate of the United States: a nation that creates myths and values or a country in decline and divided internally? “Understanding America – explains the author – is a challenge, today more than ever: a century of stereotypes created by cinema and literature, fashion and art, music and television series veils us. Added to this is the rebirth of an ancient and visceral anti-Americanism, which conditions many Italians. You have to have deep roots in this nation: paying our taxes, sending your children to school, using their health care, being a juror in a trial, buying us a house and creating a company – to overcome the barrier of clichés. The surprises are as many as the Americas, in the plural, and all their ethnic communities ”.

Sunday 24 July at 9.30 pm there will be a memory of Gino Strada, the founder of Emergency who left his writings in the posthumous book “One person at a time” published by Feltrinelli. The event, organized with the La Spezia section of Emergency, will be attended by Simonetta Gola, wife and prosecutor of her “credo” and Cristina Borzacca, La Spezia contact person for the association with readings by Marco Balma.
