Panorama: Esquina Returnable Cineclub presents special screenings in Antofagasta

Different historical commemorations will take place around the cinema in Esquina Returnable Cineclub + Arte, instances that seek the encounter between the arts in their various expressions. This initiative is financed by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage through its Support Program for Collaborating Cultural Organizations (PAOCC).

Commemoration of Chilean Cinema Day

38 years ago, the Association of Audiovisual Professionals and Technicians established Chilean Cinema Day, a date that commemorates the disappearance of the renowned filmmaker couple Jorge Müller and Carmen Bueno, victims of the Military Dictatorship.

In commemoration of this date, Esquina Returnable will have a special cycle, with free screenings of national films. To attend, it is only necessary to fill in the corresponding registration form, available in www.esquinaretornable.cl.

Said cycle will begin with Under Suspicion: Zokunentu, a documentary narrated in the Mapuche language, directed by Daniel Díaz. The director presents an intimate reflection on the identity and spirituality of his uncle, the visual artist Bernardo Oyarzún, in a context of social injustice in contemporary Chile.

La colorina, a non-fiction feature film by directors Fernando Guzzoni and Werner Giesen, corresponds to the second special screening of Chilean cinema. This function coincides with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and will have audiovisual accessibility, which includes descriptive subtitles, audio-description and interpretation of Chilean sign language.

Day Without Art 2022

Within the framework of World AIDS Day, Esquina Retornable joins forces with the organization Visual AIDS for the Day Without Art, presenting the program Being and Remaining, which consists of seven international short filmsm, which highlight the little told stories about HIV and the AIDS from the perspective of artists who live this reality in different locations around the world.

After the exhibition, which will be free with prior registration, a discussion will be held with Elayne Leyton Pereira and Guillermo Moreno Walker, founders of the Association of People Living with HIV, Family and Friends, ARPEVIH of Antofagasta.

The program presents cinematographic works directed by: Camila Arce (Argentina), Davina “Dee” Conner and Karin Hayes (United States), Jaewon Kim (South Korea), Clifford Prince King (United States), Santiago Lemus and Camilo Acosta Huntertexas ( Colombia), Mikiki (Canada), Jhoel Zempoalteca and La Jerry (Mexico).

Zurita y los asistentes, directed by Jael Valdivia, documents five years of rehearsals with the band González y Los Asistentes and the acclaimed Chilean poet, Raúl Zurita. The nerves behind the scenes and the transformation of a shy man of letters into a rocker frontman are the elements that make up this film, winner of the Chilean Premiere on the Internet, by the Red de Salas de Cine Chile.
