FROM THE HERMITAGE TO THE CORONATION, THE LAST YEARS OF CELESTINE V IN THE FILM BY CINZIA TH TORRINI AND RALPH PALKA PRESENTED AT THE AUDITORIUM

L’AQUILA – “I faced Celestino V not only for the charm and the Abruzzo myth that it represents but because each of us needs spirituality, and for me nature is the most suitable place where I can find it. The hermit and the search for him in nature as the source of everything is a current theme. The power, of which he strips himself, must not be a privilege but must be a service for others ”.

Cinzia TH Torrini thus presented the documentary Celestine V – the Pope out of this worldwhose direction he signs together with Ralph Palkapresented yesterday in a packed Auditorium del Parco, in L’Aquila, after the national preview in Pescara and the presentation in the Vatican on 14 October.

The director, interviewed together with Palka da Angelo De Nicola, reiterated the importance of setting up a Film commission for the enhancement of the entire territory and socio-economic recovery: “The regions obtain an important visibility thanks to the Film commissions. The Piedmont Film Commission was set up with me during the filming of the fiction Elisa di Rivombrosa: cinema and television are a crazy appeal. I have been going to Abruzzo since 2005, since I discovered Rocca Calascio; I am in love with it and I wonder why it is not possible to do so. It would be very important because so many places would be discovered ”.

Produced by Cassiopea Film Production with the support of the Pescarabruzzo Foundation and the contribution of the Carispaq Foundation, the documentary collects the knowledge of experts, historians of the Vatican Archives, journalists, writers, belonging to the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Celestinian Studies Foundation. Thus, it returns the journey of Pietro da Morrone’s last four years: from the hermitage to the coronation, from the renunciation of the pontificate to the mystery surrounding the cause of his violent death.

The image rendered is that of a sacred man, with white skin and eyes wet with tears, the same ones that indicate grace, which transforms the carnal Church into a spiritual Church. Not only in his one hundred and nineteen days of pontificate, but it is in his entire existence that Celestine V represents a true spiritual teacher.

“This docufilm will fly, it will reach many hearts because from the good operation we have had so much other good – and this is the most important message – and then because Cinzia’s story is a guarantee, her extraordinary sensitivity will not disappoint the high expectations”, commented Ersilia LanciaCouncilor for Tourism of the Municipality of L’Aquila.

“I thank the directors for the gift they offered to our community with the latest work focused on the figure of Pope Celestino V, produced by Cassiopea film and the Pescarabruzzo Foundation, which collaborated with the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation of the province of L’Aquila, creating a synergy. In the name of Celestino V we could give rise to a choral discourse that unites all the provinces of Abruzzo, for peace and the economic recovery of our realities “, noted Domenico Taglieripresident of the Carispaq Foundation.

“In addition to the Pescarabruzzo Foundation and the Carispaq Foundation, I would like to thank the Municipality of L’Aquila and the vice president of Perdonanza Fabrizia Aquilio because we have made a small short that will be re-proposed at the Museo della Perdonanza. The self-produced work was carried out in two years with the hope of turning it into a film for the cinema ”, commented Cinzia TH Torrini.

The work, shot in the Majella National Park, in L’Aquila and in the inland areas of the province, saw the participation of numerous Abruzzo professionals, strongly desired by the directors themselves.

“Making a film is always a team effort from a group of creatives,” said Palka. “We have reconstructed the story through interviews with more varied personalities, to have more colors. Each of them made a nice contribution. We concentrated on retracing the last four years of Celestino’s life, the most dramatic ones but not the most important because the whole life is relevant from a territorial point of view ”.

At the end of the evening, the audience was honored with some backstage images, this being the first co-directed by Torrini and Palka. Finally, the Carispaq Foundation, which has strongly supported this project, would also like to relaunch it. It will be a starting point for a work in favor of the city of L’Aquila, Abruzzo and the Celestine idea.
