Carcassonne: plenty of entertainment for a boredom

The City has just unveiled all the festivities that await tourists and residents throughout the summer. Music, heritage, sport or new technologies, everyone should find what they are looking for.

Summer in Carcassonne will be hot and plentiful. The City presented this Thursday, June 16 a program of entertainment – free for the most part – gargantuan with a slogan: “Escape with us”. A program developed by all municipal services, as has been the case since 2020, according to a guiding idea set out by Mayor Gérard Larrat: “We must not be bored in Carcassonne this summer! All people, Carcassonne residents and tourists, must be able to do something and spend a pleasant summer, and, whether they go on vacation little or not, we must take care of children especially.

Jean-Louis Bes, the cultural assistant, projects himself immediately on June 21. “The Fête de la Musique will kick off this festive summer. At the end of the Covid period, this year we are reviving the spirit of sharing and communion around music.” Alongside private initiatives, four venues have been selected by the City, with free concerts from 6 p.m.: Place Carnot (Cokifab, Les Sévillans, Yves Capeille and the Rayz Brothers), Hôtel de Rolland (Harmonie municipale and choirs of Carcassonne), Place Marcou (Mad) and Place du Prado in the City (MJC, Le Mât de Perroquet, Ariadne’s Star, Genia, Domin’go via Brazil, Karaka, Giramundo and Vieilles caboches) .

Learning holidays at the rendezvous

Still from a cultural point of view, the Carcassonne Festival will celebrate the return of its off festival after two editions without, between June 24 and July 31. With a program of more than 70 free shows on 9 distinct stages. Stephan Eicher will notably inaugurate the 1er and July 2, the new Quai Bellevue stage. Back there will still be talk at the in festival, with that of international artists, of the surprise fireworks of 14-July but also of the Feria which will offer four days of celebration in the city center (August 25-28). To close the cultural section of this summer 2022, we should also mention the free exhibitions of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Dominican Chapel, and the paying exhibition of the School Museum.

Secure animations

How can we talk about a summer in Carcassonne without talking about tourism? “The destination is more and more attractive”underlines the assistant delegate for tourism Magali Bardou, and we maintain the acclaimed Carcassonne interactive application”, which allows you to discover the Cité, the Saint-Louis bastide, biodiversity at La Cavayère and hiking or cycling trails. All this free of charge, like the shopping days in the city center (July 14, 15 and 16) and the Trivalle Night Strolls (July 21 and 28, August 4, 11 and 18), designed by shopkeepers on the street linking Cité et Bastide, and which will offer free concerts for the first time as part of the festival off program.

All of these events, secured by the municipal police, firefighters, ASVPs and the municipal reserve (patrols in the wooded areas of La Cavayère), will be supplemented by offers from the Municipal Tourist Office (virtual reality film , guided tours of the Cité, medieval workshops for children and treasure hunts), as well as the traditional chivalry tournaments (July 12-August 26) and nautical activities at the Païchérou water park and the Cavayère lake.
