Vatican City – Four stylized figures, each of a different color, almost a rainbow, indicate humanity on a journey holding a cross and almost seem to embrace it to demonstrate that solidarity and brotherhood remain the cement for the future of the world. The call to hope, on the other hand, is contained in the lower part of the cross transformed into an anchor. In the Sala Regia, in the heart of the Apostolic Palace, yesterday afternoon the logo chosen by Pope Francis for the 2025 Jubilee was unveiled in front of the Italian authorities and the international press, a global event that according to circulating estimates will bring at least 30 million people to Rome. pilgrims. Seated in the front row were the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, the president of the Lazio Region, Nicola Zingaretti, the Minister of Tourism, Massimo Garavaglia. Cardinal Pietro Parolin did the honors. “The events of these recent months oblige us to keep our gaze fixed on hope, the foundation of Christian life and the driving force for being builders of a better world”.
The Vatican organizer of the jubilee events in the pipeline celebrations, reflections, community moments, exhibitions, exhibitions Monsignor Rino Fisichella anticipated that the preparation will be marked by two key themes: “2023 is dedicated to the Council, while 2024 is entirely devoted to spirituality “. And, he added, “these two years also serve to make Rome and Italy a city and a country that can once again show its best with its tradition of hospitality that over the centuries has made it home communis “.
Fisichella deliberately made no mention of the logistical problems that are already glimpsed on the horizon, relating to the capital’s effective ability to withstand such an imposing flow of pilgrims, but that was not the time. Even the mayor Gualtieri, approaching the end of the ceremony to find out if the waste-to-energy plant will be built by 2025, limited himself to a laconic: «Yes», without adding anything else. President Zingaretti is a little more talkative and has ensured the utmost effort “to guarantee hospitality in the fields of our competence, especially healthcare. We have already started with a great collaboration with the Capitol and the Holy See ».
Fisichella recounted the complex process of the international competition that led to the choice of the logo, which was won by a young Apulian graphic designer, Giacomo Travisani.
«On 11 June I submitted the three final projects to Pope Francis so that he could choose the one that most impressed him. The choice was not easy for him either: after having observed the projects several times and expressed his satisfaction, the choice fell on Travisani’s proposal ». 294 ideas from 48 different countries had arrived at the Vatican. The age range of the participants ranged from 6 to 83, there were even many hand-made drawings by children from all over the world. “It was moving to review these childhood paintings, fruit of so much imagination and simple faith.” After the summer, the official website will be available with the relative app. In fact, the portal will contain, in addition to the Pilgrim’s Charter, news, historical notes, practical information, multimedia tools, in ten languages.
