JC Casalini – “HYPNOS”

JC Casalini presents a dystopian novel with a spiritual background, in which he tells of a not too distant future dominated by a dream social network for sharing dreams. A visionary and bitter story, where humanity has allowed itself to be trapped in the very world where there should be total freedom, and in which a group of brave rebels, led by the protagonist Adam, is ready to do anything to foster a collective awareness .

“The rebels will change the world, they will subvert the power of money, of economic interests, of the dominance of a few over humanity, of slavery, of violence, of terrorism, of inequalities. In short, they will awaken consciences so that they are ready for change. To the big correction “

“HYPNOS” by JC Casalini is a fascinating novel that, although it is a dystopia, is very current in the criticism that moves to today’s social, political and economic system, in which there is a tendency to homologate consciences and to eliminate critical thinking. In this work the power is centralized in the hands of the creators of Hypnos, a real dream social thanks to which dreams can be shared collectively; through an ergonomic helmet, able to tune in with the neuronal vibrations during the REM sleep phase, you can experience an amplified alternative reality. By its nature, Hypnos is highly addictive; it is in fact a powerful way to escape from the real world, which no longer has any attraction: the city described by the author is in fact as dark as its sky, desolate and dangerous. The privileged live in towering skyscrapers and never leave their gilded prisons, while the others suffer from hunger and misery.

In this collapsing world lives Adam, the omniscient narrator of the story, who by profession is a dream catcher in the so-called oniroweb, a sort of dream version of the internet. Professionals like him can enter the dreams of others or spread others artfully created, and the importance of their role lies in having followers who participate in their visions, sharing their dream experiences. Adam, however, has always felt a certain discomfort, and it is for this reason that he became a freelancer: he therefore detached himself from the dominant power, represented by a financial oligarchy – the Mind-Fin – which controls every resource, human or material. , and which keeps humanity in check through the “oneireconnection”. When Adam goes further, exploring an interdicted dream area, his awareness begins that will lead him to understand how much he has been manipulated and deprived of his free will; it is the beginning of a risky journey, faced in the two realities and also in the conscience of a man who wants to change things, not for himself but for the good of the community.

Between technology and spirituality, between dream connections, fake freedoms, awakenings, sacrifices and rebellions, a poetic and at the same time cynical and ruthless story is told, which inspires profound reflections on our present complex.
