In Praiano, the Christmas events involve above all the little ones: the Living Nativity /PROGRAM is awaited

The Municipality of Praianoin collaboration with thePelagos Associationthe associations present in the area and the parishes, has defined the program of events and demonstrations that will take place during the Christmas holidays.

It is a rich program of events where adults and children will find the right entertainment to experience the most beautiful time of the year together.

The music and the Christmas tradition of Campania will be the flagship of the Christmas events in Praiano.

Saturday 10th December we will host the Italian Flute Association which, with the concert of Mario Pio Ferrante on flute and Raffaele Maisiano at the piano, they will take us on a musical journey “in romanticism from Naples to Paris”.

We will still continue with classical music with a concert for piano, double bass and voices (soprano and mezzo soprano) to be held on December 17th at the Congrega del Rosario, the place that Praiano identifies as the “House of Music”.

Here, until 31 December 2022, the exhibition “Naples singing city: Pasolini and the Neapolitan song” organized by the Bideri Foundation and dedicated to the little-explored link between the Friulian intellectual and the Neapolitan musical tradition.

Sunday 18th December instead the Amalfi Coast Rotary Club, in a unique event to be held at the Church of San Gennaro, in addition to conferring Rotary honors to pure talents of Praiano and the Amalfi Coast will remember, with declamations of lyrics and testimonies, Don Domenico Irace, for all Don Mimì, priest, teacher, educator, poet and writer from Praiano who lived between 1910 and 1981.

We will then continue with the Coriola company which will perform in its concert Tuesday 20 DecemberChristmas carols from the Neapolitan tradition reaching up to the North European and American ones.

Monday, December 26, with Sounds of Reed teachers Soda, Cernuto And Pisano they will immerse us in the most classic Christmas sounds, delighting us with three of the oldest instruments on the musical scene: the Organ, the Zampogna and the Fiscaletto.

23 and 29 December and Thursday 6 January 2023it will be the turn of the young citizens of Praiano who, with the Idea Live aps theater company from Salerno, will embark on a journey, with three fairy-tale shows, from the imaginary world of Alice in Wonderlandof the Little Prince and of the characters of an imaginative and modern Living nativity scene, to the present day. Moments of “educational fun”, but at the same time the actors will help them learn to never lose their fantasy and imagination.

Wednesday 28th December we will conclude the climate dedicated to Christmas melodies with the concert THEY STOPPED THE SKIES: The Songs of the Neapolitan Nativity Scene of Sant’Alfonso Maria de’ Liguori from Ambrose Sparagna with the participation of Pepe Servillo.

The songs related to the Neapolitan crib – and among these the very famous “When Nascette Ninno”, “They stopped the skies” – interpreted by the charming voice of Pepe Servillo and from the sounds of Ambrose Sparagna and its musicians.

Many curious and ancient musical instruments including one giant bagpipea model of extraordinary proportions (it is almost 2 meters high) which spread throughout the Kingdom of Naples starting from the end of the 18th century in order to accompany the typical repertoire of spiritual songs.

All combined with splendid voices to evoke together a unique atmosphere of great emotional intensity.

There will be literary and cultural meetings: Tuesday 27 Decemberthe text will be presented at the “Andrea Pane” Cultural Center CHARLES DARWIN – Man, his great journey and the theory of evolution (by John Van Wyhe).

In this book the author summarizes 25 years of research into the life of the famous scientist: from his expedition aboard the Beagle, to his famous research on the Galápagos Islands, up to his marriage, his illness, the publication of his revolutionary writings, more of all The Origin of Species in 1859. Prof. Robert Sandulli (Professor of Zoology and Marine Biology at the Parthenope University of Naples), who edited the Italian edition, will tell us how Charles Darwin revolutionized our way of understanding life on Earth and our place in nature.

Sunday January 1stthe first day of the new year, the Praianese population will gather in the church of San Gennaro for the usual Great New Year’s Concert: Viennese waltzes arranged by Maestro Giovanni Vuolo and masterfully interpreted by the award-winning concert band “Città di Minori”.

Saturday 7 January will conclude the program of events In Paranz d’or Tramuntan: the joy and euphoria of the first days of the year sung and danced to the notes of Campania and coastal folk songs, punctuated by typical instruments (tammorre, accordion, organetto, castagnette, putipù, bagpipes and ciaramella).

This year, Christmas decorations are all about saving energy. The lights are powered by 100% solar energy thanks to a photovoltaic panel that recharges the internal batteries, which release energy to turn on the lights once the sun has set.
