San Gabrielalso known as Gabriel or Gabrielit’s a movie of the 2001 directed by Maurizio Angeloni and played by the protagonist Lorenzo Gleijeses.

The film tells the life of St. Gabriel of the Addolorata.

Gabriele dell’Addoloratato the century Francesco Possenti (Assisi, March 1st 1838Gran Sasso Island of Italy, February 27 1862), was a religious Italian of the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ. Proclaimed holy in the 1920 from Pope Benedict XVhis liturgical memory is celebrated on February 27. He is the patron saint of the region Abruzzoof the Italian Catholic Youth and the municipalities of Martinsicuro (YOU), Civitanova Marche (MC) And Bovolenta (PD).

Eleventh of thirteen children, Francesco was born to Assisia city that the father Sante Possenti, noble from Terni and papal governor under Gregory XVI before and Pius IX later, he was assigned to preside. Her parents Sante Possenti and Agnese Frisciotti were married in Civitanova Marche, her hometown, in the Sanctuary of San Marone, on May 13, 1823.

At the age of four his mother died, and the family followed the various movements that the paternal profession involved. That was until they settled in Spoleto where Francesco, guest of the college of Jesuits attached to Church of Santa Maria della Concezioneattended the teachings of the Brothers of the Christian schools and the Jesuits themselves [1]. He led a normal life for a boy his age and his time. He was known for his loving and outgoing personality. He once risked his life in a hunting accident. Like any other young man of his age, Francesco attracted the attention of the girls of the city. During an illness, while still a child, he promised to become religious if he was healed. He was healed twice, but he postponed this commitment. Francesco did well in school, despite a childhood marked by the death of three sisters and above all of his mother[2].

During the procession of the icon of the cathedral of Spoletoon 22 August 1856Francis heard an inner voice (Marian phrase) who invited him to leave bourgeois life to become a Passionist religious. His father, Sante Possenti, presented him with great difficulties, but Francis was able to overcome all his arguments and to persuade him of the genuine nature of his religious vocation.

Francis took his vows in Passionist community assuming the name of ‘Gabriele dell’Addolorata’, supporting the devotion to the Our Lady of Sorrows rooted in him since childhood, inspired by a statuette of the Compassion that the mother kept at home. At the end of the novitiate he pronounced the vow typical of the Passionists: to spread devotion to Christ Crucifix and later also to the Virgin of Sorrows. His writings (correspondence and pages of spirituality) reflect his intense relationship with the Lord and the Virgin Mary. In particular in the Resolutions describes in detail the path followed to achieve unity with the Christ’s passion and the sorrows of Mary, thus achieving perfection according to the Passionist rule[3].

He spent six years in the Passionist congregation (18561862). After philosophical studies a Pieve Torinain the Marches, he went to Abruzzo to carry out theological studies, finding hospitality, during the journey of 8 July, to Isola del Gran Sasso, in Giulianovain church of Santa Maria a Mare, where the room in which he stayed is still preserved. Towards the last two years, when he was already in the community a Gran Sasso Island of Italy at the Conception retreat (18591862), was struck by the tuberculosis bone, but he always strove to follow regular conventual life in everything compatible with his illness situation. Up to two months before her death he could follow the liturgical celebrations. She maintained her customary serenity of mind until the end, to the point that the other brothers were eager to spend time at her bedside in addition to her normal duties of care. Gabriele totally resigned himself to her imminent death. Before he could be ordained a priest, for health and political reasons (Abruzzo had recently passed from Kingdom of the Two Sicilies to the Kingdom of Italy), Gabriel died, at the age of only 23, in his Passionist monastery, clutching an image of Our Lady of Sorrows to his chest.[4]

Pope Pius X it has proclaimed blessed in 1908, while Benedict XV it has canonized in the 1920. Pius XI he declared it patron of Catholic youth. In the 1959, John XXIII declared him patron of theAbruzzowhere Gabriel spent the last three years of his life.

Every year numerous pilgrims go to the sanctuary of San Gabriele to Gran Sasso Island to visit his tomb and the convent where he lived the last years, to approach the sacraments of penance (confession) and the Eucharist. The cult of St. Gabriel is widespread above all in Abruzzo, in central Italy, especially among young Italian Catholics, and Italian emigrants have spread the cult even in the United States of Americain central America And Southern in Canada and Australia. The cult of the saint is also spread by the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ to which Gabriele belonged.

Numerous people have reported miracles achieved through her intercession and patronage. Saint Gemma Galgani she claimed that through the intercession of St. Gabriel she was cured of a serious illness. With her example, the Saint from Lucca better defined her Passionist vocation.

Another testimony of the miraculous hand of the young saint comes from Veneto, where Mrs. Albina Gomiero lives. She is the grandson of a former parish priest Monsignore del Treviso, she tells that as a child she was now condemned to die of a serious illness. Until the night in which she appeared to her in a dream “that young man in the picture”, as she declared to her uncle prelate the next morning, referring to the effigy of San Gabriel that the religious kept in his study of her in the rectory. Since then the lady she goes every year to the Sanctuary of Isola del Gran Sasso.

San Gabriele is highly revered in the Marche Region, especially in the provinces of Macerata, Fermo and Ascoli Piceno. A particular devotion is in the Val di Chienti precisely in Morrovalle where he made his novitiate in the convent of the Passionist Fathers and in the city of Civitanova Marche, the birthplace of the saint’s mother. Here on May 13, 1823 in the sanctuary of San Marone Martire his parents Sante Possenti and Agnese Frisciotti got married. Father Sante administered this city for four years. Furthermore, the young Gabriele stayed in Civitanova on 9 September 1856. A parish and the town band are dedicated to him. San Gabriele dell’Addolorata is the patron saint of the City of Civitanova Marche together with San Marone Martire and Santa Maria Apparente. In addition, in Civitanova are also kept and venerated in artistic reliquaries three Holy Relics of the young fellow citizen saint. Every year, when there are one hundred days left before the start of the state examination of the upper secondary schools, thousands of students of theAbruzzo and neighboring Regions go to the sanctuary to attend mass and pray for the success of the exam. After the liturgy, the blessing of the feathers takes place outside, with which the graduates will face the written examination of maturity. The day ends in joyful joy and serenity. Remember that there are no photographs of Gabriele: the portraits of him are all posthumous and few made by those who remembered him in life.[5]
