The filmmakers’ 81-minute German-language film Peter Bardehle and Francesco Catarinoloentitled “The Red House“, Is the winner of the special prize”Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage“2022.

The films “Fanes – Round trip“(Paolo Vinati, Ladin with Italian subtitles, 45`),”The food rebels“(Paolo Casalis, Italian with English subtitles, 53`) and”Höhenrausch”(David Pichler, German, 74`).
2022 Award Winner: “The Red House”
“The Red House” is a documentary film about South Tyrolean extreme climber Robert Peroniwho has found new meaning for his life in East Greenland and runs the shelter house “The Red House” there.
Virna Bussadoridirector of the Nature, Landscape and Territorial Planning office, which is responsible for the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site in South Tyrol, presented the special prize to Elke Peroni, daughter of Robert Peroni, on Saturday evening (9 April) at the Bolzano Film Club.
“Robert Peroni’s film is about distant lands, but it concerns us directly – declares Maria Magdalena Hochgruber KuenzerProvincial Councilor for Landscape Protection -. It addresses the issue of the complexity of land management and collective responsibility, between the global and local dimensions. The meaning of UNESCO recognition is precisely this. “
“Respect for nature and the landscape is what distinguishes this award – explained Virna Bussadori -. When we have the opportunity to cross unique things, we must respectfully place ourselves in front of them. Our Dolomites are unique in the world and for this reason nominated UNESCO World Heritage: it is our duty to put ourselves before them with due respect, guaranteeing them safeguard for our generation and for future generations.
The same respect we must have towards the uniqueness of Greenlandic landscape and the culture of Inuit. The sustainable management models shown in the film ‘The Red House’ and Robert Peroni’s assumption of responsibility for the community and towards nature prompted the jury to award the directors the UNESCO Dolomites Special Award“.
Peroni, synonym of ecological tourismwants to preserve the culture of the Inuit, the last hunting people in Europe, giving local young people a job and therefore a prospect of life and the future.
“Peroni takes responsibility with his retirement and puts up more than just a sign“, points out Elisabeth Berger, Coordinator of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage South Tyrol at the Provincial Department of Nature, Landscape and Territorial Planning. “The film is also striking for its splendid natural shots and takes the viewer on a journey through a largely untouched landscape“.
