Looking back to find love? Prime Video’s Dating Series, The one that got awaymatches a group of six romance-seeking contestants with missed connections from their past.
The reality series, which dropped on the streaming platform in June 2022, followed six singles looking for love. While they hoped to eventually find The One during their tenure on the dating experience, the host Betty Who revealed in the first episode that all of their suitors to be familiar faces. The showit is stars connected with old friends, unrequited high school crushes, and even one-off flames after they retired through a “portal.”
“I came out of the season feeling very optimistic about how people can change and show up for you,” the “Somebody Loves You” singer told The List ahead of the series premiere. “It’s something I’m really passionate about, and the advice I would probably give is that people can really change. You have to give people a chance to show you who they are now, and that’s a really special part, and we’re going to see a lot of that in this season of The one that got away.”
She added: “I will say that there is a weak point that I felt for [contestant] I f [Perla] and his story of reuniting. I don’t want to give spoilers, but there were a few times where I was really supporting Jeff, and watching him from behind the scenes [and saying to him], ‘You got that, baby.’ If there was one competitor I felt like I was watching closely, maybe it was Jeff.
Through the show, travel blogger Jeff struggled to open up to his potential matches, including his former confirmation classmate Anthonyhis colleague Micah and his longtime friend Alex VanGurp.
“I found people who [come] through [the portal] take you back to who you were back then.. and when i saw him go through it kind of gave me [this] wave of, “OMG, that’s how I used to feel,” Jeff admitted during the first episode. “It was really interesting trying to navigate each person and each relationship, and how they came into your life to begin with.”
Elsewhere on the show, viewers met the model Allyssa Andersonwho was ready to settle down and get married.
“I am a strong believer in spirituality. I think in many ways it was just serendipity,” she told the camera. “I felt when I was presented with this show, it was a stroke of fate, and I really had to take the plunge and not look back.”
Although she tried to pursue relationships with her former high school crush, school bus pal and Instagram fan, he was a family friend. Adam Drexler who conquered his heart.
“It’s a promise to you that no matter what happens and no matter where life takes us, I will always support you and I will always be there for you,” Adam gushed during the finale, presenting her with a promise ring as they exited through the portal together.
