The Catholic University of Avila (UCAV), through its research group “Territory, History and Digital Cultural Heritage”, has inaugurated the III Academic Conference on Isabel La Católica “Spiritual Profiles of the Queen”, which takes place in Avila Los Serrano Palace, where between face-to-face and online he has registered 510 enrolled.
A day in which the “prompt” canonization of Isabel la Católica was claimed, as defended in their interventions by both the president of the Board of Directors of the UCAV, Lydia Jimenez, as the coordinator of the day, Jose Antonio Calvo.
The first, moreover, was very happy to be able to participate in the days of the spirituality of Isabel la Católica, “our Queen of Avila, universal, and to be able to contribute to the knowledge of this great figure of universal history that she is urgently waiting to be canonized”, she insisted.
And, the second, made an analysis of the Queen’s spirit profiles that are going to be dealt with in the day, for example, how the spirituality of women has been conceived or about the Queen’s own advisers and how they also sponsored her spirituality. “We will also value the heroic virtues of the Queen and the petition to the Church and to society to proclaim her prompt canonization”, it said.
For his part, Angela Garcia Almeidadeputy mayor for Finance and Social Services, emphasized the legacy that will be reflected in the plaque that will be placed on the bust of Queen Isabella I of Castile at the beginning of the Paseo del Rastro in the city of Ávila. “From the Ávila City Council, may his memory continue to live throughout the world and survive through initiatives such as this conference organized by the UCAV”, he pointed out.
The III Academic Conference on Isabel la Católica is entitled Spiritual profiles of the Queen. ANDn this 2022 edition, it is intended, first of all, to continue with the activities of the TEHIPACD Research Group around one of the most important characters in the History of the West.
Objective: interpret the supernatural root of his political action, the project of moral and religious regeneration of the Iberian Peninsula in the transition to Modernity, the context that explained his performance and, above all, the singularly brilliant creativity to order the means, some fragmentary, with which he relied.
Supported by some of the most brilliant minds of the Castilian Late Medieval period, such as Alonso de Madrigal, Hernando de Talavera or Cardinal Cisneros, Queen Isabella the Catholic forced a heroic personality within her whose virtue was manifested abroad in the form of social regeneration, political and religious unparalleled in any other territory of old Europe.
For this reason, Calvo pointed out that this III Academic Conference intends to analyze this root, understand their heroic virtue and value their works that they made of Spain, throughout Modernity, a singularly renewed and innovative territory.
The inaugural conference was given by Professor Anna Isabel Peirats Navarrodirector of the Isabel de Villena Institute of Medieval and Renaissance Studies, of the Catholic University of Valencia, which will establish an approach to feminine spirituality in late medieval times.
The supernatural root of the political performance of the Queen ands the title of the first of the three panel discussions. The afternoon session will begin with a table of presentations related to the heroic virtues of the queen and the redemption of the universe. The director of the Isabel la Católica Chair, Professor Francisco Trullen Galve, who will show the importance of Isabel as a mirror of virtues. Next, the professor of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Juana Sanchez Gey, will offer a more philosophical view of trust in God as the root of the queen’s supernatural life. will close this table Jose Luis Rubio Willenpresident of the Isabel la Católica Commission, which will bring us closer to the evangelization of America.
The closing conference will be delivered by Jose Maria Gomez Gomez, grand master of the Chapter of Noble Knights and Dames and professor of Language and Literature, who will present the reasons for Isabel’s canonization. Finally, Senator Patricia Rodriguez, godmother in past editions, will direct the closing of the academic day. The cultural act will still remain, in which attendees will move to the bust of Isabel la Católica, placed three years ago next to the wall, to inaugurate a commemorative plaque, accompanied by the Ávila City Council.
