Everything is ready to light the traditional fire of the Immaculate Conception tonight, an experience that the Tittarelli brothers want to share a few hours before the feast day, with all the citizens who want to participate in this moment of contact with nature and spirituality in a frame of peace, at their farm.
To explain the history of this suggestive and secular custom of the Marche peasant tradition, one of the owners, Fabrizio Tittarelli: “We have been lighting this fire for 60 years that I can remember. A tradition that comes from the Marche region, where my family was born, and which we never fail to renew on the occasion of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th. My parents told me that all the peasants lit fires and there was also a sort of competition for who made the biggest fire. All the family and staff gathered around the fire and prayed together”.
Today, as they are keen to explain, the tradition is maintained thanks to their mother who truly represents the history of the family: “Of course the event has become faster in duration than the rituals of the past, but it is always nice to continue cultivating these traditions and we want to do it together with our friends and customers“ – they conclude.
The focaccias of the “Venuta”
The popular and religious history of focaracci once again arouses the curiosity of many people thanks to these fires that are lit in the countryside where a family from the Marches wants to remember the expectation of the Coming of the Holy House of Nazareth to Loreto.
In the night between 9 and 10 December, it is a popular and religious tradition in fact to light large bonfires, which recall the moment in which, in 1294, the sacred place where the Madonna was born, lived and received the announcement of the Archangel Gabriel, was transported to the Marche region (from Tersatto, to Posatora di Ancona, then in the forest of Signora Loreta and on the field of two brothers, and finally on the public road that crossed the summit of Monte Prodo).
Today someone has the custom of lighting them even on the eve of the Feast, and for the citizens of Ostia Antica the fire will announce the Immaculate Conception in the Tittarelli company. Appointment at 18.00.
