The project

No time no space – Tribute to Franco Battiato the special project created by Radiodervish, an Apulian band formed by Nabil Salameh (vocals and bouzouki), Michele Lobaccaro (guitar, bass, keyboards and vocals), Alessandro Pipino (keyboards and accordion) and Pippo Ark D’Ambrosio (percussion). A group that has made multiculturalism its flag since its debut in 1997, singing in different languages and throwing an ideal bridge between East and West with their music. A path widely traveled by Franco Battiato’s musical and spiritual research, one of the main sources of inspiration of the band founded in Bari by the meeting between Michele Lobaccaro and Nabil Salameh. Franco Battiato’s music has been a point of reference for us – explains Michele Lobaccaro – since the time of Al Darawish, our first formation. Battiato state one of the first in Italy to bring Middle Eastern sounds to his songs and the first ever to write lyrics in Arabic and Iraqi. Ours wants to be a tribute to his figure and to his art.

Songs

No Time No Space – Homage to Franco Battiato debuted on May 28 at the Kismet Theater in Bari and in the lineup the songs of the Sicilian singer-songwriter intertwine with the Radiodervish repertoire. Since childhood we have always followed Franco’s work – recalled the singer Nabil Salameh – until one day we decided to leave one of our records in the mailbox of his publishing house. To our immense surprise a few days later he called us back to congratulate us, so we started a relationship that over time became first friendship and then professional collaboration. Battiato, in fact, directed for them in 2006 the video clip of My bitter landremake of Modugno’s song, and the following year he produced the album The image of you (2007). Working together we were able to get to know – Radiodervish continue – even the human side of the artist. A man of great human depth, humility and professionalism, capable of listening to and respecting everyone. With his art he has created a new musical literature capable of combining worlds and cultures, bringing together languages, philosophies and spirituality, in fact anticipating that multilingualism and multiculturalism that is so much talked about today.

The review

Radiodervish return to the Sounds of the Dolomites more than ten years after their last participation on the Lagorai, in Val di Fiemme, where they had presented the album produced by Battiato. This Festival was the forerunner at Italian and European level – concludes Lobaccaro – of a new approach to music by the public. A great intuition that combines the value of the effort to reach the concert venue with the beauty of the music and the surrounding nature. You can reach the concert venue from Cles by car to the Malga Culmei car park and then on foot in an hour and a quarter of walking. In case of bad weather the concert will be held at the Auditorium of the Cles School Complex (5.30 pm). Information at the telephone number: 0463-830133.
