The 18e edition of Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Day, from May 14 to 17 at Lê Van Tam Park marked the beginning of the resumption of tourist activities.

The event received support from nearly 50 provinces and cities and hosted more than 100 booths from tour operators, hotels, airlines and tourist sites across the country.

This demonstration showed the serious preparation before the high domestic tourist season as well as for that of international tourism at the end of the year. The speakers thus affirmed their determination to recover and develop local tourism, actively contributing to the overall development of the national economy.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Vo Van Hoan stressed his desire to make Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Day 2022 not just the annual event of the city, but also an event marking the strong comeback of tourism in Vietnam after the great difficulties encountered during the epidemic.

Memoirs of Saigon-Cho Lon

As an extension of Ho Chi Minh City’s Tourism Day, several districts took over, showcasing the “Each district, a tourist product and/or service” campaign, initiated by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh -Town. With for example in the 5e district of the city, the “Memories of Saigon-Cho Lon” program which was organized on June 8.

The “Memories of Saigon – Cho Lon” program invited tourists to discover President Ho Chi Minh’s memorial monument, where Uncle Ho lived before embarking on his long journey to save the country.

In 1910, President Ho Chi Minh, then named Nguyên Tât Thành, came to Saigon and stayed in the house at 1-2-3 Quai Testard (now rue Châu Van Liêm) from September 1910 to June 1911. Among these three houses, one is now preserved as a souvenir, located at 5, rue Châu Van Liêm.

The second destination offered by this program was the prison camp of Cho Quan Hospital (now the Hospital for Tropical Diseases) where Trân Phu, the first general secretary of the Indochinese Communist Party, now the Communist Party of Vietnam , was arrested, was detained and where he died in 1931.

Through the opening of new tour programs from different districts of the city, the director of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Department, Nguyên Thi Anh Hoa, said that she will work with the districts to design unique tours to Ho Chi Minh City, based on visits to specific and typical places in each district.

In addition, it wishes to connect them to each other, in particular by the waterways of the city and also to highlight different types of experiences for visitors, with services focused on tradition, spirituality, or education.

Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Vice President Phan Thi Thang said each locality should create and promote its own products to make Ho Chi Minh City an attractive destination. The leaders of each locality must absolutely consider the tourism industry as one of the most important levers for economic recovery in this post-COVID period.
