> Thursday, October 6

8:30 p.m.: Conference
Interactive evening hosted by Audrey Lasa, storyteller and choreographer, sociologist specializing in ethnology, and Karomoko Sanongo, Griot musician artist. Words of griots, tales, dance and music, transmitters of Malian culture. The speaking arts in Mali, as in other West African countries from the Mandingo culture, are closely linked to the arts of dance and find their place in musicality.
The “Djeli”, a term that defines the Griot in the Bambara language, means “Blood”. This line of storytellers, musicians, dancers, singers, holds from father to son and from mother to daughter the secrets both of the collective memory of an entire people, who have remained standing and whole despite the damage of colonization with its illegitimate divisions, and of an extremely rich culture. The Djeli is not only the guarantor of cultural memory, it also plays an essential social and societal role even today in Mali, as in the rest of Africa, heir to the very first great Mandingo Empire of Soundiata Keita, which contributed to the greatness and fame of an entire people.
