If for a cardiologist a dignified death is that of a heart attack, for a philosopher his is perhaps that of an adverse argument.

ThenPato Bermúdez could be killed with an adverse argument, an old friend, colleague and rival of the Professor? Who knows, but the same Professor tells his wife that he hopes so.

A series of entanglements, jealousies, fights and a quick reference to issues of philosophy of life itself are shown in the play The philosopher declareswritten by Juan Villoro and directed by Jorge Taddeo.

This will be presented on Fridays, from October 14 to November 18, at 8:00 p.m., at the Experimental Theater of Jalisco.

«This work lends itself very well to this moment that we are living from new masculinitiesthe relationships that must change between couples and between intellectuals”, shared Jorge Taddeo.

«It becomes very charming, almost self-critical on the part of Juan Villoro, to expose how an intellectual lives, what their relationships and love between each of them are like. It is an intelligent work, I think inspired by his father Luis Villoro«.

The play premiered ten years ago and It is set during the presidency of José López Portillo in Mexico..

One of the protagonists is The Professor, played by Edward Villalpandowho describes him as an older man, a university professor, who has flirted in the political circle.

«When he dedicated himself to the academy and left all political circles, he has some envy of an old friend who got all the possible positions«, he detailed.

“And although he says not to envy him, he does have a certain resentment that the friend held those positions and a certain envy because he has lived that worldly life that he renounced and would have wanted to live».

On the other hand, that friend, named Pato Bermúdez (played by Marco Orozco) is a character who portrays the cultural bureaucracy of Mexico.

“He is one of those people who have lived their whole life in the treasury, being a philosopher he knows very well the entrails of this state culture,” Marco Orozco describes him.

«He is a character who puts his finger on the sore spot, who has prepared himself and had good contacts and managed to publish books that nobody reads, a State bestseller».

«He has worked in the government so that The Professor can write his masterpiece. He is like a martyr of friendship towards him, although The Professor does not see it that way. El Pato has always been protecting him so that he can continue writing and don’t worry about where you’re going to live.

This friendly relationship full of chiaroscuro unleashes situations with intelligent dialogues, where the Professor’s wife, named Clara (Karina Hurtado); the Professor’s niece, Pilar (Ana Belen) and the house driver, Jacinto (Jonathan Gutierrez).

«Jacinto acts as the Professor’s confrontation, I come to revolutionize him by taking him out of his comfort zone. And he has a mystery relationship with the wife to get him out of control“, explained Jonathan Gutiérrez, whose character is also in love with Pilar.

«Pilar is a studied girl, she likes to do yoga, she is a young woman with a free and light soul, she is a vegetarian. She has labels of a person who is somehow dedicated to spirituality ».

«But it has a charm of wanting to generate harmonywhat is true is that she feels besieged by what is happening because it is accompanied by compassion«, explained the actress Ana Belén.

On the other hand, the actress Karina Hurtado explained that the role she plays, that of Clara, what moves him, “in addition to moving in this intellectual field in Mexico, they are also his sublimated passions.”

«Clara has to manipulate certain situations and something very nice about the character is that he is very intelligent and without championing anything, just procuring a pleasant life, he has a deep love and conviction regarding how he wants to position himself in his existence ».

«In the end they don’t stop being humanyes They are passions, jealousy, the past in which they carry wounds and guilt. It is a work that has a great sense of humor, it is a comedy of intrigues».
