Ballet celebrates its 50th anniversary with Las moradas de Teresa

With important performances, the Municipal Classical and Modern Ballet (BCMM) celebrates its 50th anniversary. For this season, the symphonic version of the play Las moradas de Teresa will premiere this Friday, June 3, at the Ignacio A. Pane Municipal Theater in Asunción (President Franco and Chile). The functions will cost G. 60,000, G. 55,000 and G. 35,000. The work will be reprized on June 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12.

Las moradas is based on the spirituality and life of Saint Teresa of Ávila. For this premiere of the symphonic version, the Spanish composer and director José Miguel Évora participates, who will conduct the National Symphony Orchestra in all the performances performed with the musical group.

The staging brings together more than 170 people, including dancers, musicians, top-level actors, costume designers and set designers, producers, etc.

“We have six dancers in the role of Santa Teresa, for a season of 11 performances, practically two performances for each one, which makes me very happy,” says Miguel Bonnin.

The director reveals that they surprised Macarena Vallejo and Agustina Torres with their roles, and also, the evolution of Nani Fernández, “who already danced it excellently, and is going to repeat it, in addition to Sonia Soto, who is getting better and better, Maia Ayala and Cristina Baez”.

POST-PANDEMIC. Bonnin confesses that the company’s dancers radiate enthusiasm when returning to the big presentations, after the pandemic. “Her enthusiasm for her excites us, makes us want to continue working. It shows that they had something important that they lacked and that at this moment he is willing to do anything ”, he refers.

About why start the season with the abodesBonnin recalls that it is because the company was “in debt” with the work, for not being able to present it with an orchestra, “for budgetary reasons we could not do it, so this year, taking into account that it is the 50th anniversary of the BCMM, we wanted to do one of the mystical ballets, which is something that represents us, because not all companies dance this type of work,” said Bonnin.

The stable choir of the Cathedral of Asunción, Schola Cantorum, directed by Enrique Alfonso, is added.
