BrindisiClassica: Friday 14th “Ancient roots and new paths” at the Verdi Theater

Friday 14 October (20.00) the traditional concert season “BrindisiClassica” will resume in Brindisi in the foyer of the Nuovo Teatro Verdi, directed by Prof. Silvana Libardo and Francesca Salvemini, with a program of nine shows of high artistic-cultural profile with the institutional purpose to spread musical culture among the public and encourage critical listening.

The protagonist of this early evening is a rare and exceptional trio, composed of the well-known Friulian accordionist Gianni Fassetta and his excellent daughters Erica on the violin and Elisa on the cello. The concert, entitled “Ancient roots and new paths” is varied and engaging: at the opening, transcriptions of famous classical pieces by Albinoni, Mozart and Brahms will be performed; this will be followed by a large space dedicated to Astor Piazzolla’s Argentine tango and Ennio Morricone’s music from the big screen, ending in a modern key with the rhapsody Rhapsodeon op. 70 by Paolo Pessina.

The program reflects the cultural commitment of Gianni Fassetta, who, “starting from the basics of a rigorous training, saw him committed to raising the accordion to the ranks of Italian conservatives. Fassetta’s music is, in fact, a multidimensional music in the continuous search for new possibilities and new horizons: classical in its profound substance, contemporary in its aspirations, even ethnic in its ability to adapt to particular climates, atmospheres and moments. Always and in any case an authentic music of the soul and of man, released from deep and lived spiritual peripheries – such as those of tango – yet capable of spreading and expanding into horizons of universal breath and extraordinary expressive modernity “.

Gianni Fassetta is the protagonist in events of all kinds at the highest levels. Ranked first in fifteen national and international competitions, he has participated in recordings on Rai TV, regional and foreign networks. He boasts over 1500 concerts in the most important music venues in the world. Of particular importance for his artistic consecration was the tour in Argentina, where he performed at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires in the presence of Laura Escalada Piazzolla, who, according to the critics, places him among the best interpreters of Astor Piazzolla . Thanks to a recognized interpretative versatility, Gianni Fassetta regularly collaborates with internationally renowned artists in various formations: from Kaleiduo to Remo Anzovino Trio, with whom he realizes about a hundred acclaimed international concerts of great live impact.

Since 2009 he has participated in the musical projects of Maestro Nicola Piovani. In 2000 he published the CD “Evocazioni” with his own music based on texts by the poet Giuseppe Malattia della Vallata and in 2002 the CD “Reflejo”, a monographic work on the production of Astor Piazzolla. He also brings his instrumental contribution in various productions of prestigious contemporary authors and is now engaged in two new recordings: one as a soloist and one for Kaleiduo. In 2000 for the soundtrack of Renzo Martinelli’s film “Vajont” he composed two pieces for accordion and string quartet, now published by the Sugar Music record company in Milan. His sensitivity and his style are appreciated by contemporary composers, such as Daniele Zanettovich from Trieste, who have dedicated ad hoc writings to him for accordion.

Erica and Elisa Fassetta, daughters of art, are brilliantly graduated respectively in violin and cello; they perfected at the school of distinguished masters and, although very young, they boast a relevant artistic curriculum for won competitions, artistic collaborations and research and musical teaching activities.

Tickets can be purchased on the evening of the concert at the box office of the Nuovo Teatro Verdi.
