Karol G was the most awarded and Farruko called for spirituality at the Tu Música Urbano Awards

Women were the top winners of these awards for the first time, while Farruko knelt on stage.

The Colombian Karol G swept this Thursday in the third edition of the Tu Música Urbano Awards by obtaining nine awards, surprising and far surpassing artists who led the nominations such as Bad Bunny.

The main awards Karol G won at the show, held at the Puerto Rico Coliseum in San Juan, were Artist of the Year, Female Artist Album of the Year for “KG0516” and Video of the Year for “El makinon.”

The interpreter, absent at the evening, also won the Top Social Artist, Remix of the Year for “Poblado remix”, Collaboration of the Year for “Mamiii”, along with Becky G, Top Crossover Song for “Don’t be shy”, Top Trap Song for “I don’t wish you evil” and Concert/Tour of the Year for “Bichota Tour”.

FEMALE TRIUMPH

For the first time, women were the top winners of these awards, broadcast live on the Telemundo channel, since American Becky G was in second place.

Becky G won four awards in the categories Top Female Artist, Collaboration of the Year for “Mamiii”, Top Urban Tropical Song for “Fulanito” and Video of the Year for “Ram pam pam”.

With three awards, Daddy Yankee, known as El Jefe del reggaeton, won the Top Male Artist, Top Urban Pop Song with “X última vez” and the Male Artist Album of the Year for “Legendaddy.”

El Alfa, for his part, also won three awards: Top Dembow Artist, Top Urban Tropical Song for “Fulanito” and Top Dembow Song for “La mamá de la mamá”.

That same number of awards was won by Argentina’s María Becerra, who won Top Rising Star Female, Song of the Year for “¿Qué más pues?” and Video of the New Year Artist for “Entre nosotros remix”.

On the red carpet prior to the show, Becerra, who was attending the awards for the first time, told Efe that she was “delighted to be in the cradle of reggaeton alongside artists” she admires so much.

Bad Bunny, who led the awards with twelve nominations, only got two, as did J Balvin, who also led the nominations, Farruko, Christian Nodal, CNCO, Feid and Lit Killah.

THE SPIRITUALITY OF FARRUKO

The awards featured 19 musical presentations, among which Farruko’s, performing “Nazareno”, and Víctor Manuelle’s with the urban singer Miky Woodz in their collaboration “Vamo’ a ver si el gas pela” stood out.

Farruko won the award for Top Christian Song for “Gracias Remix”, along with Pedro Capó, and received the Dedication Award.

After winning the first prize, he knelt on the stage and assured that it is the “most special” of his career due to his recent spiritual conversion.

“All the glory be to God,” said the singer, who thanked the award “to all Christian music artists” for “the fight they make” since “it is not easy to carry the message.”

And, upon receiving the Dedication Award, the thousands of people who attended the event began to shout “Farru, Farru, Farru”, to which he replied that he would prefer that they “scream more to God”.

“I am not proud of my past, but I am not ashamed either, because all my falls, slips, joys and congratulations are what have made me the warrior I am today,” he reflected.

Victor Manuelle, who received the Contribution Award, given to those artists of other musical styles who were not afraid to experiment with urban sounds, thanked all the artists of the genre who trusted him when he began in 2004 to mix salsa and reggaeton.

GENRE FUSION

“I knew where the genre was headed. No one has told me no. So thank you for contributing with me to this idea that I had in this vision and that now I see is the number number genre in the world”, highlighted the salsa singer.

After this moment, the Puerto Rican artist addressed the media in a short press conference, in which he said that these awards “in a certain way” rejuvenate him.

“I made certain decisions, which at that time were quite criticized when I asked myself why I was collaborating so much with urban artists and now this year, with this award and recognition, it makes me understand that the vision was quite clear,” he stressed.

Other winners were Tiësto, Nicky Jam, Myke Towers, Eladio Carrión, Pedro Capó, Alex Zurdo, Anitta, Aventura, Bizarrap, Chael Produciendo, CJ, Crissin, El Cherry Scom, Gera MX, Kim Loaiza, Mariah Angeliq, Natan & Shander, Nicki Nicole and Totoy El Frio.
