The XVI World Poetry Festival of Venezuela, which will take place in Caracas from October 13 to 20, 2022, this year will pay tribute to the Trujillo poet Ana María Oviedo Palomares, an event organized by the National House of Letters Andrés Bello and the Presidential Commission for the Bicentennial of the poem Mi Delirio sobre el Chimborazo.

At a press conference, the Vice President of Communication, Culture and Tourism, Freddy Ñáñez, reported that the World Poetry Festival in Venezuela will bring together 35 international poets from 30 countries who will intervene with their prose at the Simón Theater during the event Bolivar.

He highlighted the poetic dimension of the Liberator Simón Bolívar expressed in the poem Mi Delirio sobre el Chimborazo, written on October 13, 1822, in the midst of a scenario of struggle for the independence of the region.

«It seems unthinkable that the Liberator on the road, on the march to the liberation of a continent, could have had time to express one of the prose poems with romantic overtones ever written, which was also an epic and aesthetic testament that marked the spirituality of our liberating company”, he highlighted.

For his part, the Minister of People’s Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, assured that the festival will take place throughout the national territory. “We go to all corners of the country with the verses, with the international guests, with the national poets and with the men and women who, without calling themselves poets, are amateurs, lovers of poetry,” he assured.

The honored poet from Trujillo Ana María Oviedo Palomares, present at the press conference, expressed her joy at the opportunity to be the voice of the country’s women poets, especially on the occasion of the celebration of the bicentennial of the poem Mi Delirio Sobre el Chimborazo del Padre Of the homeland.

Activities

The president of the Casa de las Letras Andrés Bello, William Osuna, pointed out that the World Poetry Festival, which was created by Comandante Hugo Chávez 16 years ago, emerged in the midst of a political crisis that needed poetry.

He announced that during those days the Casa Bello will carry out various activities such as the occupation of various spaces in the center of Caracas. In that sense, he added that on October 14, an anti-imperialist tribune will be held at the corner of Gradillas where more than 140 cultural activists will participate from 1:30 to 6:00 in the afternoon.

“This does not only stay in recitals, but there will also be conferences, book presentations, in forums, which have as a central axis, the core of the 200 years of that magnificent poem (…) My Delirium About Chimborazo”, he emphasized.

The mayor of Caracas, A/J Carmen Meléndez, invited the population to enjoy the different events that will take place in the context of the festival. In this regard, she highlighted that on October 15 in the Plaza de Los Museos, the Argentine rock band Los Espíritus will perform, which will be accompanied by the Venezuelan band Bituaya. The concert will begin at 4:00 pm and admission is free.
