Works by Dávila Rinaldi and whiskey tasting for dad at Petrus Gallery

The renowned Puerto Rican plastic artist Carlos Davila Rinaldi presents a series of interesting works accumulated over some 40 years, which under the title of “Accumulation/Revisited”opens on Wednesday June 15 at 6:00 pm in the Petrus Gallerylocated at calle Hoare, number 726, corner of Las Palmas, in Miramar.

In addition to being a painter, sculptor, draftsman and graphic designer, Dávila Rinaldi has distinguished himself for his distinctive style, which has strong influences from pop art, as well as from the mass media. This new exhibition, as the artist points out, began more than four decades ago, when he began a study of accumulations of “things”.

“First, I began to work on figurative works that showed the “prizes” that came out of the little machines into which they put several pesetas and they “gave” you something, which could be anything from a small ball to a plastic dinosaur”, I was always fascinated to see that came out Over time, this approach to memory became more abstract, but always expressed through color, rhythm and movement. I haven’t tried to work with the theme for several years, but recently I ‘revisited that accumulation’ and several pieces came out of it at the same time, which in a certain way describe who I am today: an accumulation of experiences, experiences and memories, among other things. ”

A self-confessed collector, he likes to collect old cameras, knives and radios, among others, “Accumulation/REVISITED” consists of a dozen works in acrylic on canvas, in various formats, the largest pieces being 6′ x 4′. The artist explained that, although this exhibition covers more of his abstract-themed work, “by working as a painter and sculptor, my work has always evolved in a constant personal battle between abstraction and figuration, where the latter focuses more on touching on themes of a social nature. Whereas, from abstraction, my work has developed more towards achieving a complex visual language, full of color and movement.”

Sylvia Villafaneowner of Galería Petrus, pointed out that being able to present this collection of “revisited” pieces, from different periods of the artist and that represent the enormous pictorial capacity of Carlos Dávila, is always a privilege and a pleasure, since they denote the strength of contemporary art scene on the island.

“Our mission at Galería Petrus is to show the best and most significant of Puerto Rican art to the delight of the public who loves cultural activities,” said Villafañe, who invited the public to stop by the Gallery and enjoy this exhibition full of color and always held with the loose strokes that characterize the work of Dávila Rinaldi, who has a very particular artistic language.

Simultaneously, on the second floor of the Gallery the Reactive Generation collective, will present a series of 50 works in small format, 12″ x 12″, very suitable for those who have not yet purchased their gift for dad. Participating artists are William Bass, José Báez, Karlo Ibarra, Naimar Ramírez and Iván Alejandro Báez.

William Bass is a draftsman, painter and engraver whose spontaneous work is based on accepting the playful aspects of creation, its lines and shapes, to be interpreted by the viewer.

José Báez is the last member of this group, who will travel during the month of July to participate in a grant received by the Chicago Art Institute.

While Karlo Ibarra is a painter and creator of installations, he has participated in biennials in Bucharest, Moscow and Havana, his work focuses on a very personal look at urban space and its relationship with the city.

Naimar Ramírez is a multidisciplinary artist who works mostly with paper, while her work oscillates between photography and sculpture. A graduate of Savannah College of Arts and Design, her interest focuses on the space that is created between the image and the concept.

A graduate of the Puerto Rico School of Fine Arts and Design, Iván Alejandro Báez has dedicated himself to exploring topics such as metaphysics, spirituality, and social relationships with art.
