With an important audience, he opened “Nature and Culture” at the Medasur Center

With an important public presence, the “Nature and Culture” exhibition was formally inaugurated, a synthesis of the Natural History Museum (MHN) that will be extended to other cultural spaces.

The event was led by the Secretary of Culture, Adriana Maggio, and was accompanied by the director of the MHN, Daniel Pincén, Dini Calderón (undersecretary of Cultural Coordination and in charge of the Arts Space) and Pablo Lucero (director of the Museum of Arts). .

The Secretary of Culture invited people to share this exhibition, which is not one of the usual ones “in this Arts Space and rather has to do with a presentation, a small introduction of what we imagine will be presented when we have the joy of reopening our dear Museum of Natural History”.

“INDOORS”

“Between the pandemic and construction work, the Museum has not been able to open its doors to the public for a while, but it has been working intensely behind closed doors. That is why we know that many children -and we see it here-, young people, students, researchers miss being able to participate and see these exhibitions, which is why we decided to offer the spaces of the Medasur Cultural Center, the Museum of Arts and the Olga Orozco House Museum for show a part of the Natural History Museum”, he added.

In a corner of the entrance hall, a work by renowned plastic artist Nicolás Toscano is reproduced, where the building of the Museum of Natural History is recognized and that in its beginnings it was a house that housed the Inspection of Schools. “We also wanted to bring this work to accompany us when entering the exhibition, as if it were entering the Museum itself,” concluded Adriana Maggio.

“DIFFERENT MUSEUM”

Daniel Pincén thanked all those present for their accompaniment and said about the exhibition: “Our intention is that they can glimpse a different museum, a museum that is built not only from our collections -which have a lot of history-, but through exchange with different groups with whom we have permanent interaction”, said Daniel Pincen.

He stressed that the sample is the result “of a collective action” of teams from the Ministry of Culture, where the script is based on the rescue of the scientific production of researchers from La Pampa. “We have reviewed many historical documents. But in addition to academic knowledge we want to incorporate and make visible the knowledge of indigenous communities today, in their ethnicity and above all in the revitalization of spirituality”, she said.

PAMPEAN FOSSIL RECORD

It is a synthesis of the new museographic strategy of the Provincial Museum of Natural History (MPHN). By going through the different levels of the “Eduardo Di Nardo” room of the Medasur Cultural Center, visitors can appreciate the ways in which the different human groups that inhabited and inhabit La Pampa relate to nature.

The organizers recommended starting the tour by entering the lower level of the room, to observe a wide sample of the Pampas fossil record and the meeting of the megafauna with the first human groups.

At the intermediate level there is a synthesis of the free indigenous world and the profound transformation of the Pampas environment.

On the upper level of the room there is a sample of current biodiversity and the contributions that Citizen Science is making to learn more about the natural world that surrounds us.
