The power to thank

The spiritual attitude par excellence is to thank. The human being who gives thanks is capable of understanding life, not from the partiality of each act, but from the complete process, that is, he is capable of seeing existence in its entirety. This is only possible from that possibility that we humans have to transcend. In that supra dimension, we can capture the vital project that we are and do. Being grateful allows us to discover that life is carried out from the generosity of those who are by our side loving us or simply share some physical and existential spaces with us.

When we understand ourselves from generosity, we are able to understand that our abilities, gifts, talents and great possibilities do not make us absolutely worthy, but rather people who can work hard, disciplined, making merits and claiming them, but always with the certainty of living from gratitude. Whoever does not learn to discover the generosity of others, but looks at everything from the pedestal on which his ego has mounted him, will end up bitter and destroying what he believes that others do not deserve, because he will feel the only owner and deserving of everything. .

We are benefited by the generosity of others, that is a reality, and it is demonstrated when we realize that we exist, not by our own merit, but by the decision -I hope always loving- of others. The healthy spiritual experience is one that makes us discover generosity and makes us be active in it. A “spiritual” human being who is stingy with life, has not discovered that his existence is made with others and that hoarding and coveting only allows us to grow economically and that is already a great defect.

Being grateful implies focusing on all the beneficial, loving, constructive manifestations that are the ones that mark the meaning of existence. When we only have time for the few misfortunes and difficulties that exist in life, we will be unhappy, we will not be able to contribute everything that we have in our hearts. The one who only has in mind the limits that he possesses, and the adverse situations of life, will not be able to celebrate it in the details that, no matter how small, are the ones that reveal the ecstasy of living and make us jump to fullness.

Being grateful makes us capable of understanding that there is always an after that can reveal better possibilities than we have been able to think or understand. The spiritual moment of traveling inward leads us to give thanks for the hope that makes us believe that we can be happier. That is why I believe that spirituality is necessary for those who want to live happily. It is an experience that demands the training of life. Three exercises could help in that training:

Contemplate, that is, put all our cognitive and emotional skills according to specific moments of existence; not letting the speed with which things happen make us look without observing, or hear without listening.

Release what has already fulfilled its function in our life, what does not contribute; what has decided to leave us we have to let go, staying with it makes us lose hope in tomorrow and assume that we will always need that which no longer wants to be in our world.

Laugh; only he who knows how to enjoy life with a good laugh is spiritual. Bitterness disguised as solemnity is a demonstration of the fear of surprise that life always has.
