The ‘Esperanza’ concert: Jesús Adrián Romero will perform in Cali.

May you be my universe, I don’t want to give you just a moment of my time, I don’t want to separate you for just one day”, is one of the most remembered lyrics of Christian music in Latin America and Europe, as well as other great hits by Mexican singer-songwriter Jesús Adrián Rosemary.

The singer of Mi Universo is considered one of the most important gospel music singers in Spanish, so much so that he has been nominated 3 times for the Latin Grammy, and has been awarded 13 times at the Arpa Awards, (one of the recognitions important to the Christian music industry).

The Mexican singer Jesús Adrián Romero will soon present the new songs from his most recent album How do you see me?

Special for El País

This has been a year of good news for the interpreter of El Aire de tu
Casa, as he was recognized for his successful music career and for exceeding two billion views on Pandora, (SiriusXM’s subscription music streaming platform). In addition, he is promoting his new album How do you see me?, a musical project that he worked on during the pandemic and that this time is combined with regional Mexican sounds.

“I am from the north. I grew up with this type of music and in meetings with friends I always like to listen to norteño songs. I had never considered the possibility of singing regionally, but while I was writing the songs, this rhythm emerged”, commented Jesús, who will perform in Cali on August 20 from 8:00 pm at the Arena Cañaveralejo in the ‘Tour de la Esperanza’ .

In this new installment you worked with renowned artists such as José María Napoleón, Kurt and Bryan Sandoval. Tell us about these relationships?

Those are decisions that are made after finishing the songs
and we feel that the single asks for a collaboration. So the names
they begin to emerge and we enter into a process of comparing not only the musical style of the other person, but also the spiritual aspect, I say that I collaborate with people with a deep soul. Of course it is important, the ‘blend’ of the voices.

I felt very comfortable with Bryan Sandoval in this band genre because
I connected with my origins, I also learned a lot with Napoleon and Kurt, it has been a learning process.

What message do you want to convey to the public?

I try through lyrics and melodies to open doors and windows in the
people’s hearts so that the light penetrates. Music is a very valuable vehicle with which the feelings that lead us are communicated.
to transcendence, the relationship with faith, love, hope and the connection with God who gives us identity
that we seek so much

The name of my albums and my songs insinuate the purpose of injecting faith and leading people to discover their spiritual center. Projecting light to the public has been a quest that has led me to try to ‘reinvent’ myself, at least a little on each album, in order to reach a more heterogeneous group with a more open and accessible spirituality.
For some people you are one of the referents of Christianity,
what do you think about this position?

Many times the public sees the artists in a way that is not,
They usually put you on a pedestal. In my case, you may think that I am on another level in terms of faith, but I am not. I am a man who grows more every day and needs more from God. The beautiful thing is that people see you as a bridge to cross over to that spiritual world.

Is it complex to be a gospel music artist?

It is not complicated as such. However, we artists must spend
through different processes that help us grow and mature both as people and as singers. What I try to do through the songs is to get God out of that confined space in which we have put him, to talk about spiritual issues that were not considered as such, such as friendship, couples and love.

Do you have an anecdote from a particular song that you can share with us?

When I was eight or nine years old I was walking with my dad towards
our house. A few meters before reaching the house I saw a bird that was injured in one of its wings and could not fly, we went to see it and my dad told me that we should pick it up and take it home because if we did not the bird would die . “Since it can’t fly,” he told me, “it won’t be able to find food and water and it will die, and other animals can eat it.”

We picked up the bird, brought it home and took care of it. One day many
years later, I was sitting at the piano, thinking about my relationship with God and trying to write a song that expressed my need for him, I remembered that experience, so this stanza was born that says it all: “What would become of me if I didn’t You would have forgiven me, I would be like a wounded bird that dies on the ground, if it were not for your grace”.

With this new recording project, the singer
seeks to approach new audiences, since it considers
that music should go beyond religion and generate a reflection on how to be good
Humans.

“I believe that spirituality is something more open and inclusive, than
many times we want to pigeonhole in the church. When human beings are spiritual by nature”, said the interpreter of Se Quedó Conmigo, who has conquered important stages such as the Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid.

“In the case of the most recent EP and the next one that we will release, we go back a bit to my roots, which have to do with the music of northern Mexico. We are including two songs in norteño and banda style. The first single in this genre has already been released and is a duet with Brian Sandoval, a guy from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. I listened to this type of music in the background wherever I was since I was a child and somehow I honor my roots, but without neglecting my identity”.
