The ‘aware’ body in movement in the new book by Stefano Spaccapanico Proietti

“Movement and awareness. Mindfulness and Mindful Movement practices in health promotion” (Armando Editore) is the title of the new book by Stefano Spaccapanico Proietti, professor at the Universities of Perugia and Pisa, as well as founder and scientific director of the “Biological Movement” project. An essay, technical and informative at the same time, as well as full of reflections, aimed at everyone, experts or not of motor activities to address knowledge that has at its center the body – aware – in movement, its incontrovertible being a generator of experience and, therefore, of knowledge. The book is available in all bookshops and online distribution channels, including the Armando Editore website.

Mind-Body System “Health is the ability to learn, to adapt, to find solutions” says Spaccapanico Proietti presenting the volume, to then add: “Our existence is, in some ways, a ‘simple’ exploratory learning path oriented towards well-being . Throughout life, in fact, we try to learn the ability to organize ourselves and the psycho-bodily functions that inhabit us in order to realize our intentions and to respond to environmental stimulations and requests. This is the learning of life”. The book therefore offers itself as a scientific and phenomenological, narrative and experiential, integrated and integral way of accessing the indissoluble wholeness of the mind-body system from which awareness can emerge: a precious and virtuous state, a quality inherent in our human essence but too often obscured by the mists of automatisms, permanent excitations and conditioned reactivity.

Neuroscience and pedagogy “Through the body in movement – says the author – we can really know and embody brain programs, the way we think and feel, the way we act and interact, the way we look and let ourselves be looked at , the way we touch and let ourselves be touched, the way through which our consciousness manifests itself and manifests all that we call life”. The work therefore presents itself as an original and unprecedented encounter between neuroscience and pedagogy, millenary traditions and current discoveries, spirituality and rational discursiveness, which culminates in what could be defined as a methodology of the alternative: a program of practices aimed at offering the possibility to become Other. “Going beyond – concludes Spaccapanico Proietti – the current form of things and of oneself, transforming oneself through the power of observation, of awareness. Being there fully, present to the senses, to the intentionality of contact, in a clear, stable, peaceful, flexible way, fully capable of cultivating our health resources”.
