‘Smile to God’. This is the title of the conference to be held, Saturday 8 October at 10.00, in the hall of the Paolo VI Center in Magenta, in via San Martino 13, as part of the program of celebrations for the centenary of the birth of Santa Gianna Beretta Molla ( October 4, 1922 – 2022). The cultural and religious in-depth event on the “saint next door”, an exemplary figure of wife, mother and doctor in life, was promoted by the Ambrosian Catholic Action, in close collaboration with the ecclesial and civil community of Magenta and the Diocese from Milan. Saint Gianna was formed in Catholic Action and the conference is meant to be a moment to reconstruct, step by step, her journey towards holiness, with the support of two theologians, Monsignor Claudio Stercal and Moira Scimmi, consecrated in the orthodox virginum of diocese of Milan and teacher of religion. The interventions will be coordinated by Maria Teresa Antognazza, journalist and author of the children’s book “Gianna Beretta Molla”, with color illustrations by Maria Silva (In dialogue editions). The conference is an opportunity to deepen the figure of a woman endowed with great spirituality who “Smiling at God” has always put her life at the service of her neighbor with extreme naturalness. The last act of her existence was to carry the pregnancy to term even in critical conditions. The parish priest of Magenta Don Giuseppe Marinoni invites to participate: “After the joyful and festive moments of October 1st in Mesero and October 4th and 7th in Magenta, it seems beautiful, positive and fruitful to stop and reflect on who Saint Gianna is, beyond the biographical data, and even more questioning why so many, in many parts of the world, invoke her and feel her close. This is the reason for this conference “. For the Centenary Year, until April 28, 2023, four Holy Doors will remain open in as many Ambrosian churches linked to the life of Saint Gianna Beretta Molla. The first is in the Basilica of San Martino di Magenta, where the Saint was baptized and where her marriage was celebrated. The other three are found: in the Buon Consiglio church in Pontenuovo di Magenta, where she prayed every day and where her funeral was celebrated; in the Sanctuary of Mesero, a town where you practiced the profession of doctor; in Trezzano sul Naviglio, in the first church dedicated to her in the diocese of Milan.
