“POP, the politics you need”

The Archdiocese of Turin, Social and Labor Pastoral Office, promotes the initiative

The Social and Labor Pastoral Office of the Archdiocese of Turin has set up a calendar of the School of Politics.

The meetings take the title of “School of Pop. The Policy you need “.

The training is divided into three areas, the first of which is centered on the person engaged in politics and on cultivating the interior.

What values ​​and what spirituality for those who take care of the common good?

This is the synthesis of a series of meetings, the first of which was open to anyone wishing to participate, even if not enrolled in the POP School.

The school program was presented by the director of the Social and Labor Pastoral Office, Alessandro Svaluto Ferro.

The mayor of Turin Stefano Lo Russo, Giampiero Leo, coordinator of the Commission “Institutional activities. Art and culture and Welfare ”of the CRT Foundation, Monsignor Roberto Repole, archbishop of Turin and bishop of Susa, and Marta Margotti, professor at the University of Turin. The biblical reflection was conducted by the theologian Laura Verrani.

The second meeting is scheduled for Saturday 29 October, from 9 to 12, on the theme of the “Christian vision of the person and of society as a reference and proposal for political commitment”, a dialogue with the theologian Paolo Mirabella. The dialogue with Luciano Manicardi of the Community of Bose will follow on Saturday 26 November, on the theme of passion for politics, meaning, motivations and the spiritual dimension.

Next Saturday 17 December the appointment will focus on the politics and social message of the Church, in dialogue with Eros Monti, professor at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy. The last meeting of the first area, scheduled for Saturday, January 14th, will concern a series of testimonies and the workshop organized by POP, on the theme “Which virtues to cultivate to support political commitment”.

The second area concerns politics, the context of commitment and will start on Monday 7 November, from 8.45 pm to 10.45 pm, on the theme of democracy as an asset to be cultivated, a dialogue with the sociologist Roberto Santoro. Next Monday 14 November it will be the turn of the theme on “Constitutionalism and the Italian Constitution”, in dialogue with Anna Maria Poggi, professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Turin.

On 23 January, the meetings will continue on the theme of local authorities, regulations, competences and functions, a dialogue with Marco Orlando, director of ANCI Piedmont.

The third area will be reserved for the theme of “Policies, programs and interventions” and on how to exercise the art of administration in the daily life of people and the community.

The first of these meetings will be represented by a dialogue with Marco D’Acri, manager of the Municipality of Beinasco, scheduled for Monday 20 March, from 8.45 pm to 10.45 pm.

The final meeting of the course will be scheduled for Saturday 17 June 2023, from 9 to 12, on the theme of “Theory and practice of justice”. It will be a meeting that will focus on a dialogue with Valentina Pazè, professor at the University of Turin, the theologian Don Pier Davide Guenzi, and the deputy mayor of Turin Michela Favaro.

The conclusions will be entrusted to Alessandro Svaluto Ferro, UPSL director.

Two different choices and options are possible as registration, or registration for the entire training course or participation in two areas, one of which is compulsory and one is optional.

Places of formation will be the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy, in via XX Settembre 83, for area 1, for area 2 at the Youth Pastoral Center in Viale Thovez, and for area 3 the Artigianelli Room in corso Palestro. 14.
