Philanthropy, spirituality and the environment

Philanthropy is love, it is solidarity, it is goodness, charity, nobility, empathy, detachment and other qualities that dignify the human personality.

Philanthropy is a feminine word that indicates “philanthropic quality”. And a philanthropist is “one who is distinguished by love for his neighbor and for his works in favor of humanity.” Just as here in the country was the well-remembered Mr. Walter Deiniger, who came to the country more than half a century ago and settled here to do philanthropic works. He was the owner of the company Molinos de El Salvador.

And so were Mr. Miguel Menéndez Castro, who as a deputy donated his entire salary to schools in Atiquizaya; and the Guirola family, from Zacatecoluca, who carried out works of social benefit.

And currently, Mr. and Mrs. Simán are philanthropists, associations such as those of Father Vito Guarato, who has been helping Salvadorans for 36 years, and many other corporations worthy of praise for their philanthropy.

Because philanthropy is love, it is solidarity, it is kindness, charity, nobility, empathy, detachment and other qualities that dignify the human personality.

On the other hand, spirituality is the “quality of things spiritual or reduced to the condition of ecclesiastical.” Priests practice spirituality. Although there are noble people, very sensitive and uninterested in material things, who express their spirituality by doing good.

And as for the environment, this is “the environment, set of cultural, economic and social circumstances in which a person lives, or the set of circumstances outside a living being”.

Illustrious personalities of our environment were lovers of the environment, Nature, flora, crops, rivers, streams and everything else that makes up Mother Earth (“La Pachamama”). And one of these personalities was Napoleón Viera Altamirano, co-founder of this newspaper, with his wife, Mrs. Mercedes Madriz de Altamirano. With other environmentalists he founded the well-remembered Association of Friends of the Earth, which has always ensured the protection of our natural resources.

These assessments are relevant with the nomination of Charles III, as King of England, on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at the age of 92, which occurred at Belmoral Castle, on Friday, September 9, 2002. .

And it is that the new King, 73 years old, will precisely practice the three qualities mentioned in the title of this article: philanthropy, spirituality and the environment, as reported by El Diario de Hoy, on that Friday.

What beautiful qualities, which Elizabeth II also exercised!

“Long live Queen Elizabeth II and long live the new King Charles III of England!” So chanted the people of London. And so we Salvadorans also chant. Yes sir!
