New Bishop affirms Christian values in response to social and moral crisis in the DR

The new National Supervisor of Church of God RD, Bishop Juan Tiburcio Pérez indicated that today the Dominican Society is torn between life and death, on the brink of cataclysm and social disarray; with the moral and values crisis that the country is experiencing; so the church must appeal to the “Spirituality”, which is one of the three main axes on which he will base his actions during his 4-year term (2022-2026) at the head of that Christian/Evangelical denomination in the country.

He recalled that in a changing and unstable world, like the one we are living in today, the church has to play its role as guarantor of peace, spirituality, values and good customs; in frank allusion to the high levels of criminality, anti-values and delinquency that are registered today in the country.

“That is why it is necessary the regeneration of the Christian people, as a form to bring peace, tranquility and Christian values to today’s Dominican society; a transformation in our model of working with people, of perceiving things and of representing Jesus Christ with dignity; that is why you drive on three great axes; Spirituality, Institutionality and Growth; to continue contributing to our country, in each of the churches that we have scattered throughout the National Territory”, he expressed.

The Bishop of Caribbean Field, Ismael Charles, from Cleveland, Tennessee, United States, together with the Bishop of the Hispanic Caribbean, Reverend Antonio Encarnación and the outgoing Bishop Mauro Vargas, appointed Reverend Juan Tiburcio Pérez and his wife as the new National Supervisor of Iglesia de Dios RD, Pastor Olfa Noemí Rosario de Tiburciofor the four-year period 2022-2026, in the company of all the leadership and pastoral ministry of this Protestant denomination.

He recalled during his inaugural address that Christians have been commissioned by God to preach the “Good News of Salvation”, which transforms lives and change hearts; and that although it is true that the church cannot ignore the problems of the society in which it lives, neither can they “secularize” the church, so that it loses its natural state and its reason for being.

“That is why we will base our actions during the next four years on these three fundamental axes; Spirituality, Institutionality and Growth; the first Axis, Spirituality, because the bible says that our fight is not against flesh and bloodand that the Weapons of our militias should not be carnal, but powerful in God, for the destruction of Fortresses, and this is the fundamental axis, on which the Church should rest”, he assured.

He also argued that Christians should also take hold of the Institutionality, adhere to it, work with transparency and walk in the Spirit as the word of God establishes; because if the institution becomes weak, cracks and falls into vulnerability, then they could fail and disappear as a church.

The new national supervisor of Iglesia de Dios RD, appealed to the unity of the evangelical people and the Christian church in the country, after clarifying that the “Unity of the Church” is not a whim, nor a suggestion, but rather a mandate and a biblical teaching; so everyone must work for it.

“From today they we call everyone to this Platoon and Army of the growing Church of God RD, that we are able to withstand any disturbance, any storm, and we will keep the ship afloat despite the challenges of the times”; he clarified her, after leading the ceremony of transfer of command, which took place recently in a hotel in the Capital with all the Christian/Protestant national leadership.

He also appealed to the Charter of Paris of the United Nations Organization (UN), of 1948, in France, which establishes that the “Liberty, Justice and Peace in the world have as a base the recognition of the intrinsic dignity and the equal rights of all the members of the human family, and that the ignorance of these rights, have provoked acts of barbarism, outrageous for the conscience of humanity”.

“If I need and want I respect, I must respect, if I need and demand Mercy, I must be merciful; because the main mission of the church in the world is to do good, lift up the fallen, strengthen the weak, support those who are falling and give a hand to those who need it; because who He has no Mercy, no Compassion for his neighboryou should not demand it either,” he emphasized.

At the end of his talk recalled that he believes in the growth of the church and planting many others, but that in its management, rather than just focusing on growth, it will emphasize strengthening and widening the weak ones, to solidify them.

“Therefore dear church, beloved church, I tell you that the best times of the Church of God are yet to come, because the Last Glory will be greater than the first, do not lose heart church, go forward, not a step back”, he ended by urging all the evangelical leadership present at the event and the Ministry of the Church of God RD, not to lose heart and continue to fulfill of the “Great Commission” of Matthew 28and Mark 16:15.
