ICON TALENTS IV – (MUSIC)

Alfonso de Miguel began to be interested in music as a teenager, but in reality he was in contact with it since he was a child because his father was always an amateur guitarist and tried to initiate him in this field from a very young age. His uncle who was a music lover also helped in part, because she got him used to listening to music. He studies at the IES “Los Cantos” at the same time that he begins his musical training, at the age of 15, at the Bullas School of Modern Music. When his vocation was truly defined and he began to consider music as his main objective, it was when he met a guitarist in a masterclass who told him about the new specialties of jazz and modern music in conservatories, allowing him to study officially. At the same time, he started his first group with Jesús Caparrós (bass), his father and his uncle (guitar) and him (drums). For him, music is a way of life where he finds a lot of similarities with other determining factors in society, it has enormous wealth that it contributes in the form of values ​​such as discipline, creativity, even spirituality.

He began his studies at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Navarra, specializing in Drums-Jazz and Modern Music. In 2014 he obtained a higher graduate degree in Drums-Jazz and Modern Music with outstanding marks at the CSMN in Pamplona. He moves to Barcelona and later visits New York, where he meets and studies with musicians nationally and internationally. Already at this time he begins to receive some awards that guarantee his excellent training and his talent for music, such as the First Prize in the “Young Jazz Musicians Contest” in Talavera de la Reina (Toledo, 2016) .

In 2018, he began studying a Master’s degree specializing in Drums and Modern Music at the prestigious Conservatorium Maastricht in the Netherlands, a country where he lived for a year, obtaining a Master’s Degree in Performance, Conservatorium Maastricht (ZUYD University), Maastricht (Holland). ). She keeps an enormous memory of her musical activity in that period where she meets musicians of different nationalities, each one of them giving her a different vision of music that help her to progress personally, collaborating with many musicians. In Europe, he values ​​above all that there are these specializations in universities that can offer the necessary studies and make music continue to advance to the delight of its listeners, and he enjoys a period full of vital experiences, offering him the opportunity to travel a lot.

The second and last year of his Master studies takes place in Lisbon ESML, Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (IPL), thanks to obtaining an Erasmus scholarship; He finished these studies at this prestigious school having the opportunity to continue training with consecrated Portuguese musicians. Portugal surprised him a lot because of the high musical level and cultural movement, where he came to form a group, touring several countries. He has received MasterClasses from great musicians such as Antonio Sánchez, Ambrose Akinmusire, Justin Brown, Sam Harris, Harish Raghavan, María Schneider Orchestra, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Will Vinson, Lage Lund, Jochen Rueckert, Jo Krause, Javier Colina, Michael Laurent, Jordi Matas, Borja Barrueta, Martin Leiton, Bob Sands, Rick Rosatto, Antonio Serrano, Andrés Olaegui, Pepe Bao, etc.

During that stage he won some awards, which will continue in the years to come, placing him as a recognized and extraordinary musician, such as: I Prize in the “VI Alhaurín De la Torre Portón del Jazz International Festival Contest” with ‘Maxi Caballero Quartet’ (2018). I Prize in the «XXVIII Municipal Contest of Artistic Creation / CreaMurcia in the Category of Other Trends» with his personal project ‘Alfonso de Miguel, Color’s (2020). III Prize at the XXIX Municipal Contest of Artistic Creation – CreaMurcia in the category of “Other Trends as a member of the project” Flora Majora “(2021). I Prize at the XXX Municipal Contest of Artistic Creation, CreaMurcia in the category of “Other Trends” as a member of the “Mario W” project (2022).

Throughout his career he has participated and continues to participate in numerous and diverse formations that have led him to play on important stages and festivals in Spain such as JazzFermín (Pamplona) or Heineken Jazzaldia (Donostia) among many others.

He is a drum teacher in Bullas and Murcia (2019-Current), privately and at the modern music academy «Groove-In» and «Musicarte». His students absorb his knowledge and also get them to value music, making them feel its importance, because it is truly beneficial, it brings stability, tranquility, interest, enthusiasm. The teacher’s influence is important in teaching and, knowing this, Alfonso values ​​his progress and encourages his creativity. He prepares classes for all levels, as well as preparatory classes for access to the higher level of jazz.

Music absorbs most of his time, in its multiple meanings, study, concerts, teaching, but it also leads him to immerse himself as a cultural manager in the project “Las noche del Amphitheater” that arises from his personal interest, along with the collaboration of the excellent City Council of Bullas, promoting a cultural cycle of concerts in an incomparable setting that is being followed by a large audience. This investment in culture, events, concerts, helps important musical values ​​emerge that make Bullas stand out as a town with a lot of musical talent.
