Music in the Dordogne: Bach interpreted by the pianist Cyril Marie under the large shelter of Gorge d’Enfer

From the age of 6, very naturally, the little boy puts his hands on the piano of the house and it is this instrument that he chooses as his life companion. “When I was little and they wanted to enroll me in a music lesson, there were no more places available except in the harp class,” he says. I started to cry, because it was absolutely the piano lessons I wanted to attend. »

Spirituality

Born in Dijon, Cyril Marie spent his childhood and adolescence in the Paris region. He joined the National Conservatory of Music in Paris and won several prizes there before leaving to perfect his skills in the United States. Today, where the musician really feels at home, it is in India, the country where he first set foot in 1995 and where he found the path to spirituality. He spent nearly twenty years of his life there.

However, when the Covid broke out, he had to seek refuge and it was in Périgord Noir that he found it. “Since June 2021, I have two houses, on two sacred lands, declares Cyril Marie. With the Périgord Noir, it was like a reunion; as if I had been there all the time…”

Bach

In these anxiety-provoking and troubled times, the artist wanted to work on a program that could spread a message of peace. For this he chose scores by Johann Sebastian Bach. “Bach’s music is music that elevates”, expresses the pianist. He who has traveled all over the world has always found a piano somewhere to practice his art. His habit is to run his hands over the keys of a grand piano to deliver classical music repertoires, or to use a synthesizer to accompany bhajans, Hindu devotional songs.

Cyril Marie, who likes to experiment with his music in unusual places, has equipped himself with speakers and an electronic piano. After playing between the sculptures and paintings of the E2k gallery in Saint-Cyprien on March 15, where a real piano was waiting for him, it was to the troglodyte village of La Madeleine, in Tursac, that he moved his new instrument Monday July 25.

On August 12, Marie-Christine Girard will read her texts to punctuate the musical pilgrimage proposed by Cyril Marie.

“Music carries me, he confides, and I would like people who listen to me to be able to feel all the love it conveys. »
