The Order of the Temple of the Sun brought together an amalgamation of esoteric concepts, combined with elements such as homeopathy, and with influences from Freemasonry and also from Rosicrucianism —a current that claimed the secret order created by Christian Rosenkreuz—. It was in 1984 when Jouret —a homeopath— and Di Mambro —who had directed several New Age philosophy organizations— created this sect under the name of the International Chivalric Order of the Solar Tradition. Under all that facade of spirituality, in reality, a network was hidden to capture wealth and capital from followers. By the end of the 1980s, they had almost 500 members, most of them young and with high purchasing power. The heir to the Piaget watch company, Camille Pilet, became part of this sect. In subsequent investigations, ties to the Sicilian mafia were discovered and it was found that black money laundering was one of the main sources of financing for the organization.
