Houses and studios of illustrious people, from Emilia

A house tells a lot about the people who live there or who have inhabited it, even after many years it speaks of the everyday life of those who lived there and produced their art or work there. In Emilia-Romagna, the Cultural Heritage Sector of the Region has identified, to date, more than 90 realities representing museum houses, residences, homes, studios and archives of artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, scientists, inventors, collectors, historical figures and illustrious families, mainly dating back to the last two centuries. With the approval of the Law dedicated to the “Recognition and enhancement of the homes and studies of exponents of the world of history, culture, arts, politics, science and spirituality”, the Emilia-Romagna Region will start a process of recognition that it proposes to the structures concerned by the legislation to implement good practices, and to the subjects wishing to apply to be part of the “Houses and studies of illustrious people” requires to participate in an accompanying path carried out also through training courses and conferences.

This will be discussed tomorrow, Friday 23 September, in Cesena in the Palazzo del Ridotto, (piazza Almerici, 12 – from 9:30 to 13:30), in the international conference promoted by the Region “Houses and studies of illustrious people in Europe” , the first meeting of study and comparison, which aims to increase knowledge of the wider context in which these particular cultural places find themselves operating, highlighting examples of good practices, ongoing experiments and future-oriented planning.

The conference

After the institutional greetings, the video “Houses and studies of illustrious people of Emilia-Romagna. Cultural landscapes ”, created by the artist and photographer Luca Bacciocchi. The theme of the enhancement of the homes and studios of illustrious people in Emilia-Romagna will be introduced as part of the cultural strategies of the Region, then we will talk about the French brand “Maisons des Illustres”. On the basis of the Case Museo Icom Italia group, the strengths of these places will then be reviewed, where you can enter through a door and find yourself in history.

From the “Milanese Stories” project, a path that starts from domestic intimacy to lead to museum familiarity, “Handel & Hendrix in London” will be illustrated, a museum that, centuries later, unites two famous “neighbors”: the musician Georg Friedrich Handel and guitarist Jimi Hendrix.

A reflection on the narration of the cultural heritage inherited by the architects will be proposed, with examples of integrated enhancement in the territory and will end with an invitation to travel to the homes of the illustrious.

The event takes place in conjunction with the “Ilarian Year”, the homage that the city of Cesena dedicates to the architect and artist Ilario Fioravanti, whose centenary of birth and tenth anniversary of death occur in 2022. His House of the Hoopoe, in Sorrivoli di Roncofreddo, is listed in the guide book “Houses and studies of the illustrious people of Emilia-Romagna” (edited by Cristina Ambrosini and Claudia Collina, Bologna, Bologna University Press, 2022), first mapping of the places affected by the Regional Law 2/2022.
