Hiking tourism, success for the LAG of Sardinia in Santiago de Compostela

An intimate and authentic experience to discover unique places from a spiritual, landscape and cultural point of view, in a land in the Santiago de Compostela Spainwhere hospitality is considered sacred, where ‘slow’ tourism can be a strong inspiration for Sardinia which aims at authentic hospitality.

So nature, culture and spirituality are the cornerstones of the project “Walks of the Spirit” thanks to which the LAG Ogliastra in partnership with the Nuorese LAGs Baronia (in the role of Lead Partner), the GAL Barbagiathe LAG BMGthe LAG Barigadu Guilcerthe GAL Logudoro Goceano and the LAG Sarcidano Barbagia Seulohas just finished the study trip to Santiago de Compostela, for the implementation of the inter-territorial cooperation project. General objective: the establishment of a model of circuit of religious paths in Sardinia, strategic for deeply rooted spiritual tourism and particularly felt throughout the island.

The project envisages the study of the most tested reception systems at European level, which can be replicated on the regional territory. Specifically, it envisaged the organization of a 5-day study trip, which was attended by a delegation made up of 7 groups (one for each LAG partner), on the Way of Santiago de Compostela, with the aim of promoting meeting and comparison between the tour operators of the territories involved with those of already established and highly experienced realities.

The visit made it possible to get to know a tourist reality capable of generating important numbers worldwide, with a constantly growing trend, capable of illustrating evolved realities and models in the sector.

Unique experience. “We believe that – he says Daniela Arzu member of the CDA of Gal Ogliastra– the development of projects focused on community tourism and a sustainable travel offer that allows you to better experience the tangible and intangible heritage of the island, discover the peculiarities of the territories and get in touch with those who live them is one of the ways to be followed to strengthen experiential tourism and create new seasons and promote better integration between territories. The operators of the Way have much to teach us, they are very aware of their tourist product, of how important it is for their well-being, they know the languages well and we have witnessed a range of services offered to the traveler which are above all made up of great collaboration between territories. They have shown us how central it can be to be connected to each other to offer a product that is loved around the world”.

“Sardinia and its itineraries offer a unique experience,” he says Ilaria Perino technician of the LAG Ogliastra – and this journey has allowed us to observe and get to know a territory better which, thanks to its cultural, spiritual and tourist value, allows us to experience the journey in an introspective dimension, favors the contemplation of places and the possibility of feeling part of those communities. We have seen how the creation of a quality offer stimulates the growth of skills and professionalism in the area and becomes an employment opportunity”.

The program. The five days of study focused on training, with a specific focus on the cultural-religious thematic product and on the Spanish market, on the places of greatest interest to visitors, visits that were useful for thinking about the prospects of the Sardinian destination for walkers. Expert operators from all over Sardinia who specialized in tourism, creators and promoters of best practices participated.

Five operators from Ogliastra were present: Milena Pusole (travel agency), Alexander Murino (Excursions with the Green Train), Philip Bangoni for Chintula snc, Robert Murgia for Abellabellu sas e Julia Depau for Emotion sas

“The study trip to Santiago de Compostela was an important appointment – he says enthusiastically Milena Pusole which has an incoming travel agency in Baunei – which has provided us with information on our potential and projects us into organizing our work with greater baggage. Sardinia and Ogliastra are certainly a fascinating holiday destination for us and we can make it even more attractive by promoting it even better and collaborating with other areas of the island like this trip made together with other operators and all the other LAGs. taught us”.
